Hmmmm... bad split 10 -13 year olds!
10 year olds still like the odd party game - but I have found most 13 years olds prefer to have a "serious" disco - one idea to get round this is to get the older ones to judge the competitions etc.
Games/competition ideas:

Miming to a tune
Balloon race
Crocodile race
Piggy back game (they absolutely love this one)
Best Intro (get kids to introduce the next song in a dj stylie!)
Hoola Hoop contest
Guess Who game

... There are tons of games that you could do... but it depends on how many props you have got... remember though, If you do games that exclude kids quickly then they will get bored

Mummies

Get two three team and get them to wrap one of the team members in Toilet roll, really good fun, then they can break out at the end.

Judge who is the best one and then on with the musix

Thanks all, as Kazzachi said, it is a tricky split of ages especially 12 when the boy are wanting games and the girls are totally serious about music and far too mature LOL .
I`m intrigued by your piggy back and crocodile games , how do you do them ?

Cream Cracker Eating Games are worth a shot for older teens and young adults. Buy some packets of cream crackers, and see who can eat the most (without a drink) in the space of playing the next track.

Don't try this with younger kids though excl.gif , and a working knowledge of The Heimlich Maneuver can be handy smile.gif

Also hiding sweets in paper plates filled with whipped cream (The type that comes from a can). The idea that they have to find and move the sweets from under the "foam" and spit them onto another plate using only their mouth. The one who moves the most sweets in "X" amount of time is the winner. Quite messy but thats probably why the kids enjoy it!.

042.gif Piggy back game (one I made up myself sort of!) - get kids into twos, then you play some music - to which they must do funky dancing but face each other all the time... when music stops, one of them runs a complete circle round the partner, then dives between their legs, runs round another full circle and jumps onto partners back for the piggy back... last couple (s) (however many you decide) on are out! Make very specific warnings that once they are piggy backed then they are not allowed to run around.

Crocodile game - get group into teams (divide group equally) then they have to squat down with their hands on the shoulders of the person in front - they then basically make a dash for the finish line without falling over or removing their hands from the shoulders of the person in front!

When playing games with kids, it is vital that you look at EVERY safety aspect - should one kid get hurt then you will be the one who is blamed. Make clear rules at the beginning of the games - pointing out the dangers if they muck about - and if anyone doesnt adhere to the rules, then they are out.

Although Crispy's cream cracker game is fun - I dont play this - there is a real risk of kids choking. Before playing any game it is advisable to do a "risk assessment" - look at all possible dangers - remember - if something does go wrong - you will be the one who has to explain it to the parents. Have fun

I mentioned in another thread about a function I did for the deaf where they had to attempt to lip read a message and pass it on. Well I adapted this and used it at a function last weekend. It was a corporate 'do' for Debenhams and I printed out some statements appropriate to them, got 10 volunteers from each department up at a time. I gave the first one the message to read and he/she had to memorise it and then whisper it to the next and so on. The last in the team had a clipboard to write down the message.

The game takes about 2 mins per team and I'll guarantee that the message written down at the end will bear hardly any resemblence to the original eg

'Debenhams will be open on Christmas day this year and all staff who are not at this party will be expected to work'

Result 'Our store will not be open on Christmas day but Andy and Peter who are not here will have to work at the Christmas party'

This game could be adapted for any event and, as shown above, the message doesn't have to be long or complicated. The teams were in competition to prove that they were the best at communication and were un-believing when they heard the results.

The only stipulation you need to make is that the 1st person can read and the last one can write biggrin.gif

... try this.... buy some marshmallows and get the kids to "makeover" a partner using the marshmallows... they make lovely beards and eyebrows... make sure you tell them to avoid the nostrils and eyes though..... tried this one last week and it went down a storm... make sure you have plenty of baby wipes handy and stand the kids on newspaper - it does goes messy/sticky!
