Last time I played any Black Lace was last september - The Music Man - a request.

Don't know why I should remember that...lol
Norfolk DJ

I have their 'great hits' album and find that at 'family parties' where there are a lot of children or old people, the tracks go down very well. They are a tool for the function DJ to use if needed. I build them into a 'party set'.

I would say that the music man gets played about 6 times a year and the okey cokey as well. Maybe superman as well.

when i was a teenager not that long ago i know, i own up to buying a twelve inch record by them, cant remember which one but i still have it somewhere it had an adult version of superman on it.must turn it out hide.gif
found it ,it's agadoo and on the back cover it demonstrates the dance move to agadoo so i can learn it now,if im not on line for a while i'm pushing pineapples and shaking trees 533.gif

nothing up with Black lace. They can storm a good party if played. I don`t usually play their stuff though.

Two I use almost every wedding are their,

1. Boney M medley (Brown Girl/Rivers of Babylon/Hurray it's a Holiday)
2. The Conga

From a dancing point of view they do good versions of Lets Dance and Do Wah Diddy.

AGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

annoyingly my son with the other rig is doing a school leavers do who have requested house music........why did I pick the wrong gig sad.gif

Black Lace - creators of songs that no-one will admit to liking.

I rarely play anything like this unless asked, but don't have a problem with them as they usually go down fairly well - rather like the Birdie Song by the Tweets.

You put that one on and hear the groans, but the floor fills with silly people looking idiotic and thorouglly enjoying themselves!

The lead singer of Black Lace (Alan Barton) before his untimely death lived less than a mile away from me In Wales (His parents still do) even though they arent from this neck of the woods originally.
Alan Fronted Black Lace through the years of their success (Agadoo etc) before leaving to replace Chris Norman as the lead singer of 70's / 80's band 'Smokie'. Alan was on tour with Smokie in Switzerland (I believe) when the tour bus left the road and Alan was Tragically Killed ! sad.gif
Lovely people his mum & dad and are now quite elderly and have never gotten over Alan's Death.
For all you pop pickers !!! lol ........Black Lace Actually represented the UK in the Eurovision song contest with a song called 'Mary Anne' which was quite good, this was before their renowned 'Silly / Novelty period !

Another useless bit of info for you all !! boff.gif

Play Black Lace from time to time, 99% of the time it is requested.

While on Holiday in the Costa's, I heard a newer version of the Music Man, or Mimic man with references to Little Britain, Becks etc. rolleyes.gif

Does anyone know what this version is?

I rememeber there being some X-rated Black Lace around back in the late 80's / early 90's. I think the only one I can safely mention on here and in public was "Having a Gang Bang". Are these still available anywhere. Seem to remember then going down very well in the clubs of Bolton back then.

Maybe not particularly suitable for the wedding market....
Norfolk DJ
Yes, I remember it well. I think it was on the B side of the old 12 'inch version. Used to go down well on news years eve back in the mid 80's. Have not seen it since!
Danno13
Black Lace still feature heavily on my clients request lists.

However, its always under the "do not play" list tongue.gif

Nothing wrong with a bit of the Lace...we should celebrate our heroes in Britain - in the USA they would be megastars!!!!!!!!

I saw him in Tenerife a couple of years ago, Club Lacoste if memory serves me, and I purchased a signed copy of all the naughty versions, which I occassionly 'slip in' boff.gif and it's really funny watching people's faces when they hear the words.

Indeed, but I'm doing a 45th wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks and they have requested some "silly party tunes with actions"

Agadoo might have to be played that night. biggrin.gif
