Why we have a code of conduct

This is a privately owned and funded, independent social networking community, with members of all ages. Just as you are free to make and enforce your own set of rules for visitors to your own private household, we exercise the same right to maintain our own code of conduct here, which is detailed below.

These rules exist in order to maintain a professional public image and for the safety and integrity of those using and visiting the forum, so please respect and abide by these rules whenever you choose to visit.

Membership to DJU is Free and open to all ages. This is a privately owned forum with no commercial activities or vested interests to promote or market and on this basis we operate a strict no-spam policy in respect of protecting the email address which is used when you register to the forum. We will never give away, sell or disclose your email address to any third party, unless compelled to do so by law.

Membership of this community is not an automatic right of any individual and activities conducted on the Internet are subject to many of the same laws and regulations applicable to the offline environment.

Super Moderators, Section Leaders and the Admin Team are here to assist and guide and are all long term members of the forum who all give their time here on a voluntarily basis. Please do not challenge their decisions publicly. Appeals and questions in relation to any moderator internvention should be made via PM (Personal Message) or Email to the moderator involved.

Members must exercise a high degree of judgment and responsibility with respect to their use of our facilities, including demonstrating the responsibility to comply with this Acceptable Use Policy, failure to do so will result in your membership being terminated and access to the forum blocked.

1) You agree not to use this service to post or send any material which is inflammatory, knowingly false and/or defamatory, libelous, inaccurate, abusive, racial, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violate any laws in your own country or the United Kingdom.

2) Please respect the rights of others to express and defend their own opinions which may on occasion, differ from your own.

3) Any member found to be using this forum for spam, unsolicited business email or information harvesting will be immediately reported to their Internet Service, Email and web-space service providers. Such actions result in an immediate ban and we always report any form of spamming activity, harassment or other abuse however minor, and without any prior warning under European and International Law.

You may not use the forum private/email messaging system to harass members, nor solicit members to visit a website or offer any products or services or for any commercial reason unless the member has publicly requested such information.

Please note: If you receive any unsolicited messages or come across any post on the forum sections that you suspect may be spam please report the matter via PM to a Section Leader, Super Moderator or the Abuse Controller. Alternatively, use the Report Button feature or the clickable bar at the top of the screen.

4) Membership to the forum is restricted to one user name per user. In the case of multiple membership accounts being discovered, we will terminate ALL accounts immediately, regardless of status.

5) Please do not use another members / real name as your login name or substitute URL address (website address)
eg: Not "Dukesy2" or "Pete Tong" or “www.djdave-doubledecks.co.uk” or or "djcompany.co.uk" or "www.djcompany.co.uk"

6) You also agree not to post / advertise / offer any copyrighted material or cut and paste material from elsewhere without permission from the original author, unless the copyright is owned by you.

7) Before posting (cutting and pasting) information from this forum or a post within it, elsewhere, you must obtain express permission from the original author and at least one forum moderator.

8) The language used throughout this forum is English. Do not post messages in block capitals, as in web etiquette this considered as SHOUTING and can be offensive to other forum users.

9) Do not substitute letters to mask swear words with punctuation marks or other symbols. Some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) parental software controls and Mobile Internet providers and School or Company networks still spider and recognise many of the disguised words and may block access to the forum from their networks.

10) Members may not "trash" or "troll" in another user's thread nor ridicule another users spelling ability. There may be medical or personal reasons as to why an individual makes these errors.

11) DJ's United is a community for all ages and promotes professionalism. So please remember to keep posts free from any explicit content or profanity, so minors and those behind commercial or educational networks with content filters may openly view and access this site. Any threads or posts that are considered unsuitable by way of content, or profanity will be removed or locked.

12) Zero Tolerance - The administrator and moderation team of DJ's United reserve the right to remove ANY member and / or edit ANY signature or posts by ANY user for whatever reason considered necessary.

Please Note: Anybody found to be causing harassment, threatening or intentionally flaming any member, moderator or the administrator will be removed from the forum immediately. Serious threats such as hacking or spamming activity may also be recorded and reported to your ISP / Webhost. Threats of violence or defamatory statements aimed at any member or staff will not be tolerated and are always taken seriously and will be recorded and reported to your ISP and law enforcement in your locality.

13) New members will have their post comments moderated for a short period of time, however demonstrating compliance with these rules in the content posted will result in this restriction being lifted.

14) Please be considerate and listen to the advice of the Administration, members of the Moderating team and Section Leaders who are here to help and advise on this site. Section Leaders and Moderators are not only here to keep the community running smoothly and to help you, but also represent the interests of the Administrator and the integrity of the forum, therefore do not publicly challenge the decisions of the Moderation Team or Section Leaders in threads or via PM message.

15) DJ's United allows members to promote their own business interests in their profiles and signatures (provided those web-sites comply with the contents of this Code of Conduct) and members may also apply to have their websites reviewed in the relevant forum section.

Please note: If you do link to your website then you are also required to provide a return link back to us. Forum Banner and text links are available for this purpose. Random & periodic checks will be made by the Admin/Moderating team. Any link from this forum that is not supported by a reciprocal back-link will be removed without notice. Incessant signature web linking without a reciprocal link in place will be subject to rule 12.

16) Entire threads or posts / first posting, bumping of posts wholly dedicated to advertising the authors' own retail sales, web-hosting, web design and other commercial activities are not permitted and will be considered and treated as spam. If you wish to promote a business activity then you will need to declare yourself as a retailer and abide by our 'fair use' advertising policy detailed below.

17) Please remember that posts and comments on this forum can be viewed by anybody (including potential clients looking for business services such as ours) and cached for long periods by search engines.
Unsuitable posts found to be disadvantageous or detrimental to the forum or its members will be removed. (see 12)

18) 2nd Hand Equipment sales are permitted on the forum, provided that these are private sales items only and this is clearly stated. You must have a minimum post count (designated by Admin) before advertising any item for sale. This is to avoid the problem with individuals signing up purely to advertise items for sale.

19) The offering, advertising, uploading or selling of illegal material (including MP3 or pirated material) or requesting / promoting the methods or places of obtaining such material or 'cracked' software is prohibited.
If you come across a post that contains a link to an illegal site, please report the post to the Section Leader or the Moderator Team via the Report post feature, or via the clickable Report bar at the top of the screen.

20) The DJU Community administration team will not allow the forum to be used as a public arena for personal dispute, and this includes disputes carried across from other forums.

All threads or posts that are considered unsuitable or containing personal insults will be removed or locked, with warnings issued to ALL of the parties involved. All Members found to be in non-compliance with this AUP rule will receive a warning, any subsequent warnings will result in a moderated status being applied to your account which will also limit future access to certain areas of the forum.

21) The Admin or Moderation team of DJ's United Community Forum reserve the right to restrict access, moderate, suspend or withdraw the membership of ANY person whose presence and/or post content is deemed to be detrimental to the good of the community or who has at some stage, demonstrated a conflict of interests.

22) Do not publicly start threads or post questioning the business integrity of another colleague or member. Doing so is totally unprofessional and may appear to the casual observer to be "sour grapes" on your part.
If you have any genuine, provable grounds to question another persons business ethics or integrity or if you are a client involved in a dispute with one of our members or have grounds to complain against another member or retailer, then please privately contact a member of the Moderator Team with the details of your complaint and we will try to assist.

23) Members are encouraged to pass on, and advertise any bookings which they are unable to cover to their member colleagues on a goodwill basis. Where any work is being passed on for reward (ie commission, Agent or fee basis) then this is acceptable but should be clearly pointed out on the actual post.

Dj's United takes no responsibility for any dispute arising from work passed on between members, or complaints between members and their clients and these should first be addressed amicably and privately between the parties. Where no resolution has been possible then section 22 above shall apply.

24) In Compliance with UK Guidelines and General Internet Safety, some additional rules exist to protect the interests and safety of members under 16 years of age. These are detailed below.

Members Under 16 Years of Age

Members under the age of 16 are welcome to join and participate on this forum, however additional safety rules apply:-
A) Members under 16 years of age are forbidden from posting any personal contact information whatsoever on this forum. This includes addresses, mobile and landline telephone numbers, School Details, or any personally identifiable information which may jeopardize their safety.
B) Members under 16 are strongly advised never to arrange to meet with anybody that they may contact via the internet unless accompanied by a parent / guardian.
C) DJ's wishing to employ / mentor a young person who is aged under 16, should first contact and gain the permission of the child's parents / guardian prior to arranging any meeting, training or employment.

Retailers/Related Organisations.

Retailers are required to identify themselves as such in their profile at the time of registering. This enables members to easily identify sales posts from private individuals and commercial retailers where consumer laws and distance selling regulations will apply. Our policy on free advertising is extended out of goodwill, so please abide by the fair use policy detailed below and don't abuse the facility.

R1) Retailers/Related Organizations are allowed to join DJs United and may use their business name as their DJU login name if so required eg: “MyDiscoShop”, but should not use their website address as their login name eg: Not “www.mydiscoshop.co.uk”.
R2) Retailers/Related Organizations may reply to members requests and Private Messages for quotes on equipment at any time, using the SAME method of contact as the member – eg: If a member sends a PM to a Retailer asking for a quote on a product, the retailers reply should be by PM, not a post on the forum as other members may regard such postings as spam.
R3) Retailers/related Organizations may start and reply to non-business/selling related posts at any time, providing their reply does not incorporate unsolicited suggestions of un-related products/services, which the retailer/related organization has for sale.
R4) Advertising is limited to one ad per 30 days posted in the Dedicated Advertising Forum and may advertise your companies', sub-companies or associated companies services and any products for sale. It will remain any companies' responsibility to ensure that their employees are made aware of, and abide by the same policy.
R5) Retailers/related organizations not adhering to items R1 thru R4, or membership items contained in the AUP may have their forum Warn Levels raised and/or posting/reply rights suspended.
