Did somebody mention my name?

The point behind the deletion of dormant or little used accounts is for a number of reasons. Firstly a number of what I would have called regular posters have grown tired and no longer visit. I'm fortunate that I know two of these personally, and when asked, their reply was that they felt that they were doing all of the work, whilst others just took the shared information for granted, and were contributing little back.
Certainly, I tend to agree with this sentiment, I've also shared similar feelings after spending time researching a question and then upto 30 minutes typing it into a post only to find that the person asking the question never came back to read the thread - often the not knowing is the most frustrating bit.
A simple thank you for any information given, is a courtesy and will take you around 30 seconds, it also lets the member(s) who had replied to your thread know that you took the trouble to read the advice.
Most of the questions asked by "newbies" are questions which any pro or semi-pro D.J could answer, yet it seems to be the same handful of people posting the replies. For instance a topic with 7 replies and 300 views, says it all really - plenty of people happy to read, but not to contribute anything back into it. As they say - "every little bit helps". Perhaps if everybody added a bit, then those members who are posting on every thread wouldn't need to spend ages typing it all in one post?. After all, several small paragraphs and opinions from individuals are better than one long essay giving one opinion.
The majority of the lurkers may be happy to read the meterial of others, but should those who are posting become fed up of being the only ones making the effort, then there will be no new material for you to read in the first place.
The participation level depends on two main factors - the length of time that person has been a member, and the amount of posts made in that period. For new members - making 3 - 5 posts per week will give them quite a high participation level, for others who have been members for a while, but posted little will have a lot of posting to catch up with!. So if you start out with good intentions, and contribute around 15 - 20 posts per month then it should never be an issue

After all it is a community and not a stage, and I would rather have 40 or 50 active members here, than 600 dead accounts.
