Ministry Of Sound/Bonkers/Clubland/Etc CD Albums I Find Personally Have Damaged The Great Disco Tracks Of The Past.
Anything Over 128bpm Is Breaking The Pure Concept Of Todays Music Scene & Further More Why Ruin Good Classic Dance Tracks With Silly Intro Beats & False Fades Etc.
I Get To Listen To Stacks Of So Called New Tracks,But Sadly Within Them All,There Is To Be Found A Trace Of A Good Old Record,Is The Music Industry Running Out Of New Music & Lyrics.

For A Example Here,Remember The Old Time Song "Forget Me Nots" Well This Has Turned Up In Will Smiths M.I.B. Song/George Michaels Fast Love Amongst Others.

I Still Think That People Still Love To Dance To Original Tracks Instead Of Having Banging Overtures Poured Into Them Or Cut To Bits At The Studio.

I Still Play A Whole Tune Through & Then Fade Into The Next Track.

Mixing Is Not My Scene But I Do Find The Art Of American 80's Hip Hop Scratching A True Talent Indeed,Although I Can Never Get My Head Around Actually Doing It & Have Never Even Attempted It At A Live Gig.

I Strongly Believe & This Is My Own Personal Opinion,That Any DJ That Plays Anything Faster Than 128bpm Sounds All Night Is Bored & Just Wants It Over & Done With & For Themselves To Collect There Wages Or There Non Professional & Have Something To Hide.

It Takes Along Time To Earn Yourself A Title Like "MC" This Or That,As No One Who Is New To The Business Can Have A Poster Printed Up,Advertising Something There Not.

DJ'ing Is A Unique Talent & Skill & You Have To Put Many Hours & Even Years Into It With All Your Heart To Become Anything Professional.

I Have Been A Dj Since The Twin Deck Turntable Days Back In The 80's Way Before The Likes Of Technics 1210's Were Ever Really Around.

I Can Remember The Great Names Like Citronic/Soundout/TK Discosound/Fal/Etc,Which Was Equipment Built To Last Eons.

Who Can Really Judge A DJ As Professional ????

People Can Give You Comments Like "You're Good" But This Is Not A Medal To Say Your Professional.

I Am A DJ & After All These Years Im Still Learning,I May Say & Quote Im Professional,But My Profession Is My Music Tracks & The Way I Offer Them To The Crowd.

I May Call Myself "Camp-Dj-Uk" & I Am Sure I Am Going To Get Called "Gay" Or Otherwise,But Before I Go Any Further I Have A Very Beautiful Girlfriend Who Has Been At My Side For A Good 9 Years Now & No I Am Not "Bi" Either Or A Swinger.

Don't know why you think that - this a professional DJ forum and we don't normally discuss sexual preferences/orientation which after all is your own business.

Very interesting and alternative points of view... Of which I agree with many... You will have a fun time on this Site.... Welcome

I'm not a fan of happy hardcore or mass produced 80s remixes but 128bpm is not that fast..

maybe you need to get out more as many Djs often play faster than 128bpm with the right audence and bpm is nothing to de with being pro or just ok as a DJ.....

tbh 128bpm is slow..

Come to House Proud on 22nd june, bring your lady and friends and your beat counter and see for your self why we are in the 130 and 140 bpm towards the end of the night....

There's an offer from Marc that you shouldn't pass up! I'd go, but I don't have any money...

I respect your thoughts on the way old classics get used/abused, and many of us 'older guys' would tend to agree, but ultimately the original artist has agreed for this to happen, and is presumably getting paid rather a lot for it. I suppose we have to just take it on the chin...

Have a search on the forum - there have been many discussions on this point before, and I'm sure there will be many more - it's quite an emotive subject, as we have this unreasonable idea that no-one should be messing with our favourites!

A word on professionalism - to me, this should simply indicate that someone makes money out of the occupation, having nothing to do with how well they do it, but I know what you mean. smile.gif

I agree mainly with what you say .

I myself used a Citronic Avon for 17 years and was the best item of disco kit I ever bought.

Agree about remixes. They have no place at general functions unless they chart. they do however have their place at clubs or possibly 18/21 birthday parties.

Agree with what marky says about 128 plus bpm.

The retro tunes which you mention are very much popular today. Alot of what is now called 'camp music' was not in the 1980's and is something which was become more labelled since then.

Rob.

Do not forget that for many people the new faster remixes are the first time that some people have heard these tracks and therefore when they hear the originals they sound slow and dated. Forget me nots -patrice rushden still sounds fresh and is playable and is only sampled into the other songs mentioned not remixed. A professional dj is a dj who makes his living being a dj ,no more no less. IMO its an absolute must that a dj can mix and use a mic and where i work it is a requirement so if you dont mix you dont work. I mix club gigs all night ,everything from 90bpm up to 140 bpm and i am not bored,i sample and change tracks and thats important to me as well as being challenging. Opinions are a human right and personal but they are only one persons opinion,in a world of many kinds of dj,music that is played and requested by punters should not be criticised by djs as its a customers choice not a djs and without customers we have no work. Oh and the forerunners of 1210s the sl 1200 were around at the end of the 70s

The answer is it all depends on the function.

CS does from what I can gather a lot of club work, where remixes and professional mixing is the norm. Where as a lot of people on here are function DJ's. Although this involves some mixing, we see ourselves as compares and personality DJ's. Therfore is not necessary to mix all od the evening.

As I've said before, there is nothing wrong with remixes and so on, but at your average wedding or 60th birthday, they are not interested in these versions and it is probably the first and last time alot of these new versions will be heard by 90% of the punters there. Different though if it's an 18th as they will appreciate it.

It's really horses for courses!

Just out of intrest....Why do you call yourself "camp DJ UK" do you focus on the Gay community for your gigs?

Do you advertise with the name "camp DJ UK"? If so....does this name get you more gigs within a gay community?

Many Apologies On My Remarks About 128bpm + Music,To Be Truthfully Honest Perhaps I Should Go Out More Or Just Maybe End My DJ Days For Good As It Seems I Do Not Fit Into The 21st Music Scene.

Hello There
Camp-DJ-UK Does Not Attract More Work Its Just The Music I Play Mainly From New York City & Manchester.
I Enjoy Doing Camp/DJ Functions,As It Never Seems To Attract Violent People Which You Find At Many Clubs Throughout The UK.
I Did Read In The Newspaper A Couple Of Years Ago About A DJ From Cornwall Who Had A Excellent Following,But At One Gig He Did,He Played A "Wham" Track Which Resulted In Him Getting Head Butted In The Face,Breaking His Jaw/Nose & Teeth,Because A Guy Said To Him Your Queer.
Just Goes To Show What The Disco World Is Comming To,If This Goes On In Places Throughout The UK & Beyond.
Thanks For Asking The Questions You Did.

Thankyou kindly for your remarks here on the message board & I cannot knit pick any of them, but there again,I do not insult peoples opinions especially when they know what they are talking about.

Cheers for your message here on the forum board, but I to am a "Dino" being 41 years old.
My grandad used to live in Cornwall before he passed away many years ago, infact he lived there for god only knows how many years.
I to spent many happy days down in Cornwall in my youth as the place has a real atmosphere to it,being the coastlines & the country villages to.
Infact my accent often droops off into the "Cornish Lingo Franko"
I have not been down to Cornwall in years now,but I did hear that "Newquay" had gone Izbia style with many nightclubs etc,but I do not know if this is true ?
Funny you should mention Wham as the other day I was listening to there album in my car.
Infact I listen to many strange & odd beat stuff from the likes Of Modern Talking through to Rupaul.
Rupaul music on CD is hard to find here in the UK,so I have to order albums straight from New York USA via the internet.
Once Again Cheers For Writing

Its Strange How Music Turns Folk Alittle Odd.
Thank God It Was Not "Knock On Wood" As Otherwise It Would Have Been "Baseball Bats At Midnight"
A Crazy Little List Of Tracks That Could Cause For Concern
Chaka Khan = Chuck-A-Can.
