Ker-Ching!

HOW much!!!! wow!

10 years ago, you wouldnt have even got one smoke machine for that money.

Now adays, you'd easily get two decent machines, with a couple of tubs of fluid too. And thats what I'd recommend.

Its simply much more flexible, than one huge machine. You could have a machine each side of the stage for example, or one on the floor and one in the overhead rig. One on stage front, one at the back etc..etc...

Also you'd fill an area much more effectively using two machines, eg: Filling from left & right of stage simultaneously.

Also, if one does fail...you've got another, which would still fill the stage area by itself, given a little more time.

THe only thing is my buget does not stretch that far, I only have around £200 so 2 deasent machines are really not possable.

Has anyone here used this smoke machine, or others in its range?
If you have please could you post telling me how loud it is and does it last, and anything else you can come up with.

Or if you can recomend another machine please do biggrin.gif

thanks

Hi there

What about the Antari F-750!! I got one even though there big and quite heavy there excellent!! Takes 2 5L bottles and has a massive 40,000CuFt/min output

They have a timer remote and have variable output etc

Failing that, the Martin Magnum2000 machines are good and the Jem machines are good too

Try ebay as u might be able to pick up a good bargain

Cheers

Sorry, I didnt explain my suggestion very well.

Smoke machines have come down in price so much over recent years, that a £89 smoke machine will give you performance that you'd expect from £500 machine, say, 5 years ago.

My suggestion was therefore, consider 2 x £100 (or less) machines. Many can be linked via a control cable to allow simultaneous control/output/timer functionality.

Why does it have to be 1500W??. The power loading of the element doesn't really reflect the output power, only the initial heat up time smile.gif . For instance you can find 900W machines with a similar output to a 1500W, the only difference being that the 900W can possibly take 1 min longer to reach operating temperature than the 1500W!.

Once the heat exchanger reaches operating temp the wattage and heat up times are no longer relevant. Most modern machines (With the exception of Budget, Budget ones) maintain their operating temperature without losing production of smoke. Which means that even the temp drops slightly and the element is energised the smoke will still be produced smile.gif .

Finding a Quiet Machine for £200 is going to be very difficult. Most machines sound like your windscreen washer pump on a car (Which on cheap models is exactly what is used to pump the fluid). Also the hissing produced by the fluid reacting with the element is hard to isolate especially at high power levels so you may have to consider an Aerosol fed machine, where the pressure is produced by the aerosol gas rather than an Electronic pump.

I am working on adding to my range of machines namely from Chauvet and EU. The DTS Models on the site will give you the level of smoke and meet your budget, but are noisy in operation.

Ducting hoses can be used on noisey machines to allow the machines to be placed further away from where microphones/audiences would hear the machines so noticably.

Another good "trick" with ducting hoses (for different effects), is to block the far end of the hose (the end you'd expect the smoke to exit from) and make several (dozen) holes along the length of the hose. This gives you a more slowly building effect, almost a haze effect rather than a huge cloud.

and dont forgetl.... putting a fan behind the little devils will really get you good coverage if the motor aint all that!
