I've got around 13,000 tracks in total, if you include the old vinyl that I used to use in the early days, although I only carry around 6500 tracks to each gig - a lot of other stuff is now living in the loft
I started training at around 13 but I was 14 before I did my first gig, and 15 when I started my Own Roadshow.

At the moment I have about 14,000 on cd that I carry with me. Tucked away for my pension (LOL) I have about 16,000 singles + 12" singles and albums.
I started at the tender age of 16, and I'm not saying any more

I carry around 6000 tracks either CD singles or albums.
This fits into 2 cases and 1 x 192 CD soft case.
I have a listing of all my tracks with me for quick reference, usually updated every month.
Started at age 15, stopped for a while

but got back into this at age 35 and wished I'd never stopped

I started later in life, think I was about 27 then got made redundant and as I said elsewhere in the forum I never worked in the daytime again. I still carry about 5000 CD's on average, but slowly building my hard drive collection which is now about 8 gig of Mp3's. In fact the laptops have only come into their own in the last 2-3 yrs everything else I have ripped from CD's I own the originals of purely for convenience.

If you mean walking into a gig with the laptop and not lugging loads of Cd's around I agree, if you mean running it on autodj and letting it do its thing, I would totally disagree. I think there is abit more to being a DJ than that!

auto dj works fine i just line up the requests all your usual weather girls ,kool and the gang, wham etc, maybe the tight fit 60s mix i press play once at the beginning of the night ,announce any requests, then let them roll all night long easy u should try it u know nobody notices any difference at the end of the day as long as you play 50s to 2003 they will all be happy!

Hmmm I'm sure somebody's missing the point here, as I said to a punter who asked me to play the same track 'again' i'd played 10 minutes before........ " I'm sorry but even if I bend over and you shove a pound up my **** I'm not a jukebox!!!
I was polite and he did'nt ask again.
There is more to it than pushing play as no doubt others will back me up!!

I must agree wholeheartedly with the Spindoctor on this one. Here in Norfolk'n'good (say it quickly) some of us have just progressed to 45's from 78's (if you're under 30 - ask your dad he'll know what I'm talking about !).
I've not progressed to the computer side of Dj-ing, but I cannot for the life of me understand why anybody would want to work the evening on 'auto' mode. Why bother to turn up in the first instance ! Surely one of the enjoyable challenges of Dj-ing is working the crowd and pulling out the track that you'd totally forgotten about, playing it and having real success with a full dance-floor. We all know the standards, if unsure look at 'DJ Grandmaster Mikee's top 250, but don't become a robot. We are here to entertain the public, have an enjoyable time ourselves and get some job satisfaction

I refuse you use auto mode as what is the point then? At the radio station I work for we have a auto play out system called DAD and it takes out all the fun.
I love my lap top for ease of use and for not breaking my back but I will not let it do the night for me.....Well unless I need the toilet

Thanks Guys............... In fact one of my most sucessful ploys to liven up a boring pub on a sunday night many years ago was half an hour of lucky dip. Get a punter to pull a CD Single any CD and play it, 'no matter what it was'!!! We had a right giggle, so then I went one stage further and brought in suitcases out of the loft complete with dust and got them pulling out old 45's, punters loved it and they never knew what was coming next!!

I believe in entertainment value, and i think with the "modern" concept of DJ'ing, entertainment value has gone out the window. I talk to DJ's that don't even know what a Microphone is, and when I ask, i'm told "i'm there to play music not talk", great, Ladies and Gentlemen the Bride And Groom, all I can assume is they shout!!!!
Thats absolutly poptabulious, not arf, boys and girls

I really like the comment on 'human jukebox and the bending bit'
I had a really good laugh at that one .....LOL it was pure genius to think that comment up.
Please can I use the expression - please please please!

Hi Dennis,
But you have room for an 18 wheeler on your roads. And having seen your posts on other boards, I thought you would have had a "road train" (lol)

How much music have I got...
Hmmm... oodles
With regards to Karaoke about 6500 and the rest well I'm probaly a lucky one here as most of the old stuff has been passed on to me from the retired dj himself, (must get him on here one day)
Although since telling him about the new disco equipment I've bought he now thinks he's gonna rent them to me...Har har...
Cant possibly tell you how many I've got, when I've finished my database....

Good Lad. If you are using a microphone now it means that you already have an idea that D.J'ing is about more than just playing music and chances are you'll do better than those who just throw CD's on all night.
