Currently i hire transit vans when going to gigs.
I am going to buy a vehicle and was wondering if anyone manages to transport their equipment about in an escort sized van.
Does anyone know the dimensions of an escort sized van.
My worry is that i have 8 speakers and a 4 foot booth that i made myself. I also have overhead trussing at 6ft a piece x2. The rest of the stuff is the usual gear. Does an escort van have 6ft in length of space?

I use a mid-sized MPV and it has loads of space in it. Probably more than some vans.

I currently run an vauxhall astra van, Never seem to run out of space and i can quite easily fit my 6ft stand bars in there,
If your looking for more room, perhaps a trusty ebay transit?

If you're concerned about capacity you'll find plenty of cheap and reasonable condition Transits on Ebay for less than £1k, some less than £500.
You'll probably find the Escort van dimensions on the Which Van site. Remember it's not just about dimensions but payload too.

Have a look at the ford connect. its part way between an escort van and a Tranny.
BT are selling off their entire Connect fleet.

Hire an Escort van ionstead of a Transit next time and find out !
Transit Connect is a great van, just a little too small for what I needed as I looked at one a few months ago.

Sorry to digress - Andy, you run a Merc vito right? Does it have 3 seats? Is it comfy on long distances? Reliable etc???

Brian, I used to have a Vito van, 108D, R reg, 2.3D, sold it a few weeks ago, it had three front seat, twin SLD, and a 'up and over' rear door, easy to drive, did about 25mpg in the end, I now have a Citreon
Dispatch van, brand new, 07 reg, again twin SLD, twin barn doors, unglazed, three front seat, 2.0HDi engine with a 6 speed box.
Had it just over 4 weeks now, done just under 4000 miles, and cannot fault it at all.
The Citreon Dispatch, Peugeot Expert and Fiat Scudo are the same vehicle just different badges, I drove all of them, the Pegeout was slightly cheaper, the Fiat more expensive.
The Citreon won because as standard it has 2 electric windows, Smart Nav, Sat Nav and a tracker.
Like I say 1000 miles a week and loving it !!

Now I understand!
Drove a connect a little while ago, not a bad drive but it lacked something I couldn't quite put my finger on.
Now I know - it lacked balls.
