I've been given a list of 7 tracks for a wedding tomorrow night with the option of mixing them in one set or two. Here's my ideas:

Set One:
Chicane - Saltwater
Angel City - Love Me Right
Chicane - Stoned In Love

Set Two:
Micky Modelle - Dancing In The Dark
Cascada - Everytime We Touch
DHT - Listen To Your Heart
Cascada - Truly, Madly, Deeply

To me it seems the best configuation but if this were your gig would you do it differently?

On a separate subject but linked to the same function she said that she'd heard a song on the radio by 'Duke Special' or it could've been called that - any ideas.

Agree with your mix list but would do it as one mix not two.

Can't fault ya there Paul.
Although saltwater is very much a melodic tune, maybe you could use it to start your second set.
I'd say this crowd would like also Alex Guadino - Destination unknown and the beautiful liar (shakira/beyonce) freemasons mix.
Just for some more variety.

Duke did a great track called SO IN LOVE WITH YOU which features an awesome bass sweep 221.gif thumbup.gif

Hi Paul - I too would go for that mix, but keep it as one (unless the crowd were drifting)..

Duke Special latest release was in February called Freewheel. It has had airplay on totp2 and expect it has been on the radio but not a very dancey tune.

Wow 90 minutes in and sorted. If I can reply in reverse order:

Thanks for the link Tony. I recognised the song after it was about halfway through (that forgettable) I can recall that the 1st time I heard it, without knowing the title, and wondered why he was singing about Will?

I don't wanna stand still, I just wanna free Will wacko.gif

To the other Tony - I think my main concern would be if there are still a lot of 'oldies' around because 7 dance tracks in a row and I suspect Granny will be up belting me with her handbag bash.gif so I'll decide on the fly.

Brian - I was under the impression that, after the other tracks she had listed, it would be of a similar ilk but I think Tony may have located the one (I'll give her a call later & check). I agree about the track by Duke - kinda reminds me of summer too, might just fit that in.

Stephen NI - When I tried the complete set it lasted for about 20 mins so I thought as both Saltwater & Dancing in the Dark have slow & recognisable starts which normally work well I put them 1st for a split set. Thanks for the extra suggestions too, I'll have those ready.

Chris S - If circumstances permit I'll do it as one. The reason I split them at that point was because Dancing In The Dark is normally a 'Get Em On Their Feet' tune (here anyway) from the moment the 1st few bars are played.

Job's a good 'un thumbup.gif

Guys, Plan your first 2 or 3 tracks but never plan a mix set.

If your gonna be playing house then your more and likely in a bar / club or very rarely mobile.

Your gonna have to read the crowd - If there all drinking SOL n SMIRNOFF - keep it hed kandi - ( big voal tunes)

If there all drinking water - go more electro - trancey.
As we know 99 % of house music mixes together.
Dont play anthem after Anthem either. You will clear the dancefloor - Unknown dance tracks work in between tunes remember you dont have to play the whole tune - As long as the tune dosent have that many strings in it you can mix n drop at the seond break.

:)

as long as the customers have asked for these tracks specificaly then i think its right to plan the mix and then get it out of the way thus giving you more freedom to read the crowd.
