Alot of discussion on here recently about 40th birthdays and in particular most of us reckon these are the best parties to do, including me.

I don't do that many 50th parties, and the music tends to be fairly similar, but with a little less 80's and a few more 70's and 60's. You also tend to get 'more of the family' there compared to 40th parties, which are sometimes refines to friends only. The music spread will probably be in the main 1967 - 1987.

Yes, I would think so. When I was younger ie in my 20's and used to really enjoy these sort of parties, but I don't do 18th parties now unless they are proper family parties as opposed to a p..s up in a village hall where only their mates attend followed by the police.

Must be a bit strange as i prefer playing for the 18 to 25 range as i get fed up with playing the same old stuff for the oldies between 40 and 60. Hate the older gigs....more repeats than the bbc.

Depends on the function CS. If you are a club DJ then that's a totally different than having 100 18 year olds in a village hall with no supervision. When I did club work in the 80's I also preferred 18-30 age group, but as a function jock, I think opposite and prefer the older type functions.

Started in clubs in 1981 and still prefer them now. Also work a lot with kids and have never had any problems with working with the type of unsupervised gigs you mention. Mobile for my part is a totaly different game as i combine it with stand up and a lot of audience participation activities. Much harder work !

I think it all gets harder as you get older!

That's the reason I prefer them....... I have been playing 60's and 70's music since ......the 60's and 70's it's so refreshing to do a gig and get to play a night of house and trance ( and the odd bit of R&b reluctantly)
