there was a version called lets start to dance again which was released in the 80's, which included more rap style vocals from Mr Bohannon, a much better version as well.

He also tried to cash in a few years later with a third version.

dug out some old albums, god Hamilton Bohannon! How ugly was he?

The Cool Notes started off doing Lovers-Rock before switching styles to the more commercial side of soul with stuff like In Your Car.
They had a couple of hits in the Lovers-Rock charts in the early 80's.
Anyone who has no idea what Lovers-Rock is; it's a softer, almost soulful side of reggae, often with female vocals and usually lyrics are about love etc! 95% of it was from the UK.
There were a couple of cross-over hits, such as Janet Kay (she went to my school smile.gif )-Silly Games, Sugar Minott-We Got a Good Thing Going & many of Maxi Priest's stuff.

Whilst I woundn't be with 80s theme night box set, I much rather play 80s soul.

The ones you've listed are a fair represenation of what I'd play Ian.

Couple of others that spring to mind are:

Change/Luther - glow of love

Windjammer - Tossing and Turning

Tourist - Hooked on you

TC Curtis - Slave to Love

At a good old family knees up the other day, I played the Minder theme track, which got everyone cheering - you can't bit a bit of nostalgia (the beer helps too).

Incidentally the Minder tune turned up on a Party 2003 comp!

kazzachi
agree with you martink.. my fave is more the type of stuff Ian has listed.. I just put down what I would normally play for the frilly shirt brigade.... There are too many different genres to list all that I would play from the 80s - it really does depend on the crowd... some of mine have been asking for chesney hawkes/one and only and ttttt - tiffany/think were alone now (yuk).
My list is not representative of what I would actually choose to play... somebody listed their favourites for the forum to guess a week or so ago... which is much more my kinda thang!!
