I would read Reggae as Reggae and Ska

Bad Manners
Madness
The Selector
The Specials
UB40
Prince buster
Desmond Dekker
Etc

Trojan label stuff you can get a compilation from Virgin for all of the chart Reggae from the 70's

Monkey man
Double Barrell
Long shot Kick de Bucket
Return of Django etc are all chart stuff

There is plenty to choose from.

Me, meself and I (or even I and I) would look to see whether we are talking white, black UK or black Jamaican. These are 3 very different 'reggae' categories!
This would determine whether its ska, dub, roots rock, chart or whatever!!!!
Jimbo55
Good Point.....Reggae has a very diverse history

Reggae and Reggae, could be totally different if you see what I mean
mikeee
Correct, but you can't go wrong with Junior Murvin - Police and Theives.

You need to go shopping, and this is what you may need to get!

Young Gifted & Black 1 & 2

Reggae Love Collection

Tighten Up (Which was a series of compliations in this era)

Then you need to go to HMV and pick up or look up The Trojan Box sets, there currently on offer at 3 for something ( Cant remember what) wacko.gif
Some good songs I know are on the Tighten up, Lovers, Rare Groove & Jamaican Superstars Sets.

This I would say unless anyone would like to differ or add further is what I've found to be played /requested for this sort of age group who like this music.

Takeing all of these albums into consideration, these are the sort of songs that I have played!

Then you have to get Eskie on here to add to it, and your sorted! flirt.gif wacko.gif

Nothing to add!
cos i get the feeling that they'll probably just want pop reggae most of which has already been covered here. if they wanted genuine reggae (i.e. 99.9% of which NEVER charts) they would have likely booked a genuine reggae DJ or reggae sound system! People who are REALLY into reggae wouldn't leave it to chance that a mobile Disco is gonna know what they want!
Andy Westcott
Don't forget the dub reggae - King Tubby style. Highly typical of the era.
I remember listening to some of this on the John Peel Show in the 70s.

Some of the original stuff - ska perhaps - was more a 60s phenomenon.
