More of a Market Research Question! - What headphones do you use, and how much would you spend on a new pair??.
Rick
Well looks like im the only one so far to vote lol

I spent well over £70 as i wanted a quality pair

got some Sennheiser HD25sp and are the muts biggrin.gif

Dream pair would be some Bang & Olufsen or Bose but in the excess of
£200+ sad.gif
C.S
SONY £190
NiM
I only buy cheap ones cos they only usually last about a week or so before I break the damn things. Bought some (technics) on friday in comet for £20. Marvellous. Cheap, cheerful, nice sound and so far not broken. Only problem is the lead, which appears to be about 40 ft long (when tangled round my feet in a small booth)..
Gary
The only pair of headphones which I've ever spent more than £30 on were some cordless ones, which I now use at home, rather than "out".

When DJ'ing, I've been fortunate enough to try most of the £100+++(+++) headphones and found little difference from a pair of £10 cheap'n'cheerfuls.

The Sony 700's hurt my head after only few minutes (the band joining the left and right earpieces seemed to run on the scalp side of the headband, so dug in fairly quickly.

The Pioneers are average, I wouldnt buy on principle...everything they release drops to half price after its been out for 2 or 3 PLASA's. I wouldnt ever claim that "profit" is a dirty word, but Pioneer do take the orange skin (Piff) out of DJ's.

The Seinheisers SP25's are very nice, both in terms of sound, looks and feel/comfort. I used a pair at PLASA for the four days, and they're just as good as I remember them. If there were various DJ companies lorries driving along with their backdoors swing open...it would be the Senheiser lorry that I'd be following...

I currently use a pair of Behringer HP2000(x?)'s which cost about £30, and they "do the job".

The next mixer that I'm getting is supposed to have "terrifyingly" good headphone output, so I'll wait and see how my Behringers and various "spare" pairs of headfones sound on that, in a couple of months.
Chrispy
The reason why I ask the question is that I haven't really stocked beyond the cheep 'n' cheerfuls which I normally only "throw in" as part of a mixing package, or start up package for mobiles.

However the increase in enquries for the "named" brands is increasing and people seem to be spending more and more on headphones, than the £4.99 from Woolworths which used to be normal for mobiles.

I also have to supply the club I work at with a Mid Priced "name" so was considering supplying either a Sony, Ministry of Sound, Technics or Sennheiser. However Gary's post has put me off the Sony (Since I'll be one of the poor sods having my scalp dug into!) which leaves the other suggestions.

The club uses a Studiomaster Fusion Mixer which has an extremely high headphone output. It has already obliterated A Pair of Behringers, and even the very expensive Beyers. I chose the Sony's originally because of their high power handling (1 Watt) as opposed to the 100 - 300mw on the other brands. Since the other D.J, is slightly deaf they do run continuously at around 3/4 power!.

Laughingly, the existing headphones (Cheap Citronics) are still working - but are now cosmetically falling apart. Keep the suggestions coming smile.gif
C.S
I use the sony 700s because they last me about a year, most other barands last me about a week!

Have to admit I voted for the old BT phone!!

But a friend 'in the industry' (he works for KEFF) got increasingly embarrassed by my use of it and bought me a pair of Sennheiser 25's for my birthday, they are the nuts I have to admit.

The other good thing of course is depending on which bit you break all parts are available as spares!!!

Spin
Rick
I go with spin there!! The Sennheisers have everything repalcable on them near a nuff

The lead can be replaced if needs be as they unplug fromt he bottom of the headphones the surrounds for ur ears can be replaced too and i guess other bits too!!

The best headphone i think around and handle loads of power!! Well chris i run them from that Citronic mixer i got from you and they handle no probs on top wack and that mixer headphone socket is quite loud

Dj_Kray
I use the pioneer hd 1000 i paid 120 pound for them and they are the best headphones i have used to date. and im sure gary is sad denon dont make headphones tongue.gif
Cheezy
A ten year old pair of Senhiesers! Can remember the exact model HD20?. They have only been repaired once! (very long cable, I'm forever tripping over it!) They just go on and on! the yellow foam pads disintegrated long time ago, replaced now with some vynl ones. The cable has separated (L&R), easily solved by a few fig 8 knots! Can be driven very loud! dj.gif

Don't use headphones !!

If I had to guess I would of said Spin, Mike And Pete, hmmnn but maybe Gary also!

The only good thing about using a phone is you dont strangle yourself! yes Ive been caught up in mine on several occasions and Once I came home still wearing em cause I was in that much of a mess all tangled up I was!!!! 014.gif

Hmmnn reminds me of the time I sat and waited 2 hours for my dad to get home as I couldnt undo my motorcycle helmet!
Maybe I should go and get a phone!
YourBigEvent
No joke, just let the laptop do the work biggrin.gif
C.S
Sorry man I must be old skool,i dont have a laptop and have no plans as i dont want to give cheapskate club owners money saving ideas, like " could you program this evening for us? snd then you can have the nite off" fear.gif fear.gif

I bought some Sony 500s, but they make your head very hot and the band is tight.(I've never tried the 700s)

At the moment I'm using HD25sp, which are fantastic.
martink
Currently use a pair of AKGs that I won on a JBL training course. Think they retailed for about £70 in 95(ish). Getting a bit battered now though.

Listened to the Pioneer dj cans at Plasa, pretty impressed. Probably a to$$ up between them and the HD25s when I replace my current pair.
kazzachi
nim... long lead? Use a cable tie to get rid of the excess!
tonyj
my bt phone has done me 14 years, but if i use headphones they seem to blow after 4 weeks .......... dj.gif

but i'm now on a laptop so otsdj does the hard work....... 042.gif

I have Beyer DT331's. I got them about 7 years ago for about £60 from richer sounds and cant fault them. Great for DJ work, Used to use them in the studio back in my college days and even when drumming, can handle pretty decent levels too.
johnnyb
Sony 700's for me. Bought them for £120 nearly 4 years ago now. They have lasted me well and are the best headphones i have ever used, would recommend them to anyone (especially as you can get them for under £100 now).
djmushroomvision
i have the sennheiser 212pro. i love emm have had very little probs with them the wire has a short in it though and the cable could be shorter. im constantly tucking it in my pocket or aroung my shoulder , kinda a nuisence wallbash.gif
Paul Forsyth
Cheap pair of citronic phones used with a citronic 10:4 mixer - no problems so far at all

I've only ever seen one person using an old phone, and that was a guy I used to work for a while back in a little old mans pub.... say no more!

I use Beyer DT100's when Im djing, solid as anything.
Gary
Ive spoken to quite a few DJ's face to face, who have spoken of one common reason why they've spent more than £30~£40 on headphones.

Whats that reason? Well, I'm keen to hear the views of those who voted here about what value 'phones they went for. I'll give you a clue, the DJ's Ive spoken to have mentioned a reason that is NOT the "easy" answer of "quality".
C.S
My reasons are simple for using the sony `s i have, they dont fall to pieces after a week, they stick to my head, they give protection when i need it and the sound is good biggrin.gif

...now THAT is something I'd pay big money for smile.gif if the price was right I might even buy two 188.gif

I was half afraid to open that link (have developed a dirty mind) rolleyes.gif

Dont you remember they done the girlfriend & boyfriend remote a few years back, for xmas, where you basically just pressed a certain button to say something rather than actually talking to each other!

Extremely annoying contraption it was too and most certainly stops you talking to each other! ours were broke by NYE! but I still had the fart machine biggrin.gif

Now Eskie, you could make your fortune by making these, I'll have a boyfriend one obviously!& perhaps you could set it to stun when they dont obey!
I'll pm you my requirments 188.gif

Just checked, mine are Senheiser 410 SL! They are old, and go loud!! Who said that!!
DJ Spinko
I voted for the 'cheap and cheerful under a tenner'.
I use them to cue up, mix in a little if needed and that's it.
When I think of the number that I've accidentallly stood on over the years, the c&c type come into their own.
