Now that the Denon Music Manager software is here, and is, well putting it bluntly - disappointing, can anyone recommend a piece of software that will allow me to select the songs I want to put in a genre in a batch.

The majority of my mp3s have no genre in them, so what I want to do is go down a list, select everything I know is one genre (70s Disco for example), press a button (or two) and they are all tagged as 70s Disco.

All the software I have, you have to do it individually on each mp3, which would take forever.

Also... while I am on... can you add more than one genre to a track?

For example, you may want to have say Abba - Dancing Queen in 70s Disco, Party, Floorfillers, Number 1s, etc etc..

One obvious way of doing it would be to have the same track on your hard-drive 4 times, each with a seperate genre, but this would make searching by artist a nightmare as the same track would appear 4 times in the overall database...

Any ideas??

Tag & Rename will do that. You can select all the tracks in a folder, or just specific tracks within a folder and change any tags at the same time, such as the genre, year, or any other field.

The way I get around this that I use the "Album " tag for the decade, i.e. stuff from Abba will say 70's in the album field, Madness tracks will have 80's, Beyonce's say 2k etc.
As a further way of finding tracks quickly I also add specific words into the "comment" tag so that when I use the search facaility it will find those tracks immediately, i.e. one expression I use is "disco floorfillers" and add that to tracks from Whacko, Barry White, Rose Royce etc, then when I search for the expression Disco floorfillers it finds them all. On some tracks I may well have a few words in the comment tag, such as Jocelyn Brown-Somebody Else's Guy contains the following words in the comment tag: jazzfunk floorfiller, girls favourite, 80's top 10, and so on.
