Hi everyone,
My name is Nathan and im 15 living in the US of A. First of all I love this site, ive been looking for one like it for some time now. Ive never been a dj and it took me a while to figure out what a 300W speaker was. Im 15, have no money, no partner, and of course i still cant drive, so why am i here?

Well, I love trance and techno, of course other music too, but mostly electronic music. So Ive been wondering what is the basic, cheapest, yet descent equipment/prices I would need to remix some songs and maybe even create my own?

Second, im just wondering, for future reference, what equipment/prices would I need if I were to start doing gig's at clubs that play mostly techno/trance/electronic music. (not sure of just one word to use?) Of course equipment isnt everything, so if anyone has any other input on challenges I will face, money I would make, experience I need, how I should start off, etc. etc. I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Mr.talkalotta. biggrin.gif

For remixing - on a budget - I would recommend going down the PC route - rather than DJ/Studio hardware.

Software like "Sound Forge" offers some easy to learn editing/remix features. And the "Loops" versions of software (Acid loops, fruity loops) etc, go quite well for electronic styles of music.

Going down the DJ/studio equipment hardware route could easily cost you more than a moderate to high spec PC - with little difference in the output - as long as a semi-reasonable sound card was used in the PC.

Hi Nathan,

Welcome to the DJU Forums 042.gif . If you are looking the advice then you've come to the right place.

Firstly, we've all been 15 (Some further back than others smile.gif ) and not being able to drive, and have no income etc. However, technology has come a long way since I was your age and the solution may not be too far away.

First of all, any expensive equipment is out, so spending $1000 or $2000 at your local DJ-Store isn't worth even considering and besides to start off with, I doubt that you would need a mobile DJ level of gear in any case.

You obviously have access to a computer to post on this forum smile.gif , so why not put it to some use musically?. If you check out the DJ and PC section of this forum you will find several types of software mentioned - all of them have free downloads and trials lasting for upto 30 days. Even if you choose to buy the software, after 30 days it will still be a lot cheaper than buying Decks and CD Players.

It sounds like you may be more interested in going into Scratching and Mixing, rather than the "mobile" aspect of D.J'ing at family type occasions. If this is the case, then read the section on Scratching and Mixing and you may also like to post a question to Alex (Fenix842) Shaun (DJSBD) or Mobile DJ Crookes. All 3 of these members are in the same age group as you, and all have a keen interest in mixing!. thumbup.gif

IF you choose to go into D.J'ing further, then you will eventually need to invest in a pair of turntables or a Dual Cd Player and a Mixer, perhaps even 2nd hand just to start you off, but I would follow the computer option first and download the free trial versions of the software available. This is the only real free way of D.J'ing.

Another idea, would be to see if there are any local youth or community groups running D.J type workshops in your state?, perhaps ask at your School if they know any courses or youth organisations that teach Mixing or D.J'ing?. Another option would be to contact a local D.J and ask if you can help out at his "gigs", although given that your only 15, you would need to discuss this idea with your parents first.

If you need any more advice then just post!, and we'll try and help you. We all had to start somewhere and learn the business.

Hi Nathan,

Welcome to the forum, please post any questions/queries that you may have conserning mixing on turntables or cd decks.

On this site their are two guides for mixing and scratching, in the mix'n'scratch it section.

To all of the lurkers, yes YOU still with 0 post's - you know who you are!, and so do we

Come on - make that effort and make that 1st post! - even if it's just to introduce yourself. Far to many people have been viewing this forum, on a regular basis for weeks and have yet to make the effort of one single post!.

I'll be doing a bit of Forum Housekeeping before we upgrade to the new forum, and the accounts with zero post's will be deleted. This is after all, a community.

If you want to continue to access and read the entire forum, and take advantage of the new features then, please be fair and make the effort and contribute a little bit back into the forum, even if its just in the general chat.

Cheers

You didn't get insulted - you got WARNED, for spamming the forum with the same questions in 3 seperate threads, there is a big difference, is there any particular reason why you should be given any special treatment?.

Imagine somebody spending 30 minutes, researching and typing a reply to your first post only to find that you have started another one, and another.... - the members giving the advice could easily be insulted by the fact that you haven't bothered to even read the replies to your first post.

If you had taken the trouble to read the advice already given on your first thread, then you would have found the answer you were looking for - and the 2nd post wouldn't have been required, and what was the point of the 3rd identical post?, you have already admitted that you were in the wrong on the post above!.

There are currently 340 topics available in the DJ & Karaoke chat area alone! - i'm sure that you can find something to reply to in there, rather than duplicating the same question in different sections.

Multiple posting isn't likely to get your question answered sooner, in fact quite the opposite.

Okay Liquid - since you obviously can't take a hint, and quit whilst you are ahead, i've done you a favour by removing your membership. This forum hasn't been set up to serve one spoilt 15 year old who criticises the help and advice he's been offered, it's a community with almost 700 members.

We've tried to help you, and each time it's been met with abuse or sarcasm, and now every other post you make is directed at causing trouble. So Please take your attitude to one of the many other D.J forums, where it will probably be welcomed - on here it isn't.
