Professional Mobile Disco & Wedding Disco

As some of you may be aware I moved to Great Yarmouth to work on the holiday sites DJing, which went well until the end of the season closure. I am now finding it hard to find work on other holiday sites and bars as alot of the holiday sites want new faces and new DJs and Entertainers.

I am wanting to start doing mobile disco's in the Norfolk area or working in some bars, what ever is available really.

Has anyone got any tips on how I can go about joining an agency, or advertising.

Is there anyone on here from Great Yarmouth and Norwich area ?

Sometimes I am starting to think that moving from Bedfordshire was not such a good idea lol. Work really is quiet round here at the moment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Nathan

You could always do some personal DJing for a certain Mr B Matthews.......The Long and Winding Road or Belsen was a Gas.....

No seriously, I'm sorry to hear of your predicament, and I hope somebody will be able to give you some CONSTRUCTIVE advice...

Gt Yarmouth is really a large seaside town, and you will have no problems finding work locally from May - September. Your problem is getting into the private functions.

Building up a reputation from scratch takes time and some effort.

Instant work is usually available from agents. I would phone around a few of the local ones or go and see them for a chat (WORKS BETTER) i did that once and his phone went twice whilst I was there and got 2 bookings at the meeting. Take along photographs of your show, a list of equipment, the most impressive venues where you have played and another other recommendations. In short, your CV. You also need to create a good visual impression, that means wear a suit.

I have worked for 3 local agents since 1984, and they cover a wide area, which generally goes as far west as Kings Lynn, and south towards North Essex.

As I said in another posting, work is Gt Yarmouth in lower than Norwich.

Hope that helps, any other advide you want, let me know

I had a mate move to norfolk from Leicester with his rig last year, he is now moving back to leicester.
Was there a thread on here claiming the streets where paved with gold???!!!!

I'd go with the other guys and hit an agency for immediate work, chances are most the pubs / hotels / clubs have already been tapped up by said agencies.

they probably are if you are a top club dj in demand, but most of us don't fit that bill!

Have a look about to see if there any charity gigs coming up and offer them a disco for next to nothing or free.

Get your name about that way, We still do charity gigs now, always good for a advertisment

You could also try and speak to the some hotels etc, and see who they use and speak to them see if you can get some work there,

Again just my opinions.

Right, get in touch with Mo Rowlands (Blackvinyl) and have a chat. Nice bloke.
In fact, network with as many DJs up that way and let them know who you are. Networking is good and has many benefits.

Check out the local business link service.
look them up online too, download the free stuff (documents and help files) to help improve business in local market.

Look into Joining the FSB - Federation of Small Business. Very Good.
Check out the local chapters (business commerce) for business breakfasts. Some offer an incentive to attend such as discount on first couple of meetings. See what you think.

Visit the local bridal shops and drop in some cards.
Cheap business cards from Vistaprint. Promotions running all the time.

Optimise your website. If you cover a new area, visitors to your site need to know where to find you.

There's a couple of things to be getting on with....don't ever give up or you may slip into a rut. We are here to suggest and help so take advantage!!!!

There seem to be several DJs on the move at present and it's never easy becoming established again. The one thing in your favour is that you are not starting off from the bottom rung of the ladder again - you've just gone down a few steps.

It's not what you know - it's who you know and using your contacts here on DJU plus spending some time making new ones in your new area will pay off. If it's any help I was born in Gt Yarmouth boff.gif - Ok so it's not but I thought I'd just drop that in.

Dress smart, drop my name in and they'll think of that clothes designer (or the DJ in 007s area). kid.gif

Sorry this post is as much use as an Ipod at a wedding reception but sometimes it's good to ramble ........ rolleyes.gif

Oh and every little helps!
