I have an 11th Birthday party on Saturday 6pm - 9pm and am looking for ideas of songs to play, basically the birthday girl doesnt want party games only music but trying to rack my brains as to what music 11 year olds like for 3 hours. I know it will be chart music mainly but any other help would be appreciated.

take the last couple of now cd's and the pop party albums, you will be asked for a lot of requests from those albums.they will know all the party dances and want them all

I'm finding that a lot of them are asking for Akon - Smack that and stuff like Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Christina Aguilera and all that kind of stuff.

They are, but don't necessarily play it. Slow 'R 'n B' stuff just doesn't seem to get this age group moving, despite their asking for it.

My advice:
Play stuff like Scissor Sisters, Inferno, Fedde Le Grande, Monsters, interspersed with Macarena, Fast Food Song, Saturday Night, and don't be afraid to bung in YMCA, TimeWarp and others like that.

You might get away with Don't Cha and Pon De Replay too. Anything from the last 3 years or so which is a bit up-tempo. Avoid rap.

I've just noticed you have a 3 hour gig ahead of you - if it's going to be all music, the best of luck to you as this age range tend to run out of puff after 2 hours so. Maybe try to work in some kind of 'chill-out' session 2 thirds through to break things up, although I've not tried this.

Avoid high sound levels - I you have the means to check it, 90dB in the main dancing area should be considered a maximum.

My daughter is nearly 11. She likes (as you say) chart stuff.. Justin Timberlake, Skakira and the likes..

As someone said, take latest nows....Razorlite, zutons etc... Basically all the crap!!!!

Did my neices party a couple of weeks ago.
A couple of songs that I didn't have (but the kids brought them) where the little fish and another Pontins song. I had never heard of them but all the kids knew the moves.
High School Musical.
Scissor Sistors
Justin
The dancey ones:
Reach
Locomotion
Cheeky Girls (Honest)
If I remember any more I will let you know.

When the parents turned up, I got all the kids sat down in lines and we all did oops up side your head and it was great....None of them knew it, but they all wanted me to play it again when it finished.

Since that night, I have loads of requests for kids parties, which I don't do (This one for a favour dor sister), but I have had about 10 bookinsg for 30th, 40th weddings....so really the favour turned out to be a good one.

Thanks for the people's advice on here about what to play at the party.

Cheers

The other pontins song was Chiwawa by Dare?
Never heard it previously myself, but the kids all knew it.

The good thing about doin gigs for kids is,they constantly request tunes.Every minute running up to you so you will have no prob with the top 40 stuff and the requests thay give you,,
