I thought I was getting too old for this game - I did not want to appear a sad old bloke trying to relive his youth, but at 43 and having seen some pictures of DJs from this site and others lately I am wondering if I am still relatively young! Please vote in the poll above, should make interesting reading!

Yep you are still relitavely young. Reached the ripe old age of 53 last week. But they say there is no substitute for experience. boff.gif beer.gif

I'm 15 years older than you. I enjoy it too much to stop.

Mind you, with a son and daughter both at university, I can't afford to!

I'm 38 and I started DJing when I was 20. You're never too old and I would pick experience over age any day of the week. There's no point being really good at mixing etc etc when you don't have experience under your belt. Things can and do go wrong and it is being prepared for them that counts and that comes with experience does'nt it.

I'm not saying that because you are older, it means you are better...not at all as I know some guys that play dance music and are in their early 20's. They do big clubs allover the place and have obviously got their experience that way.

looking at the results seens as if i need to cancell that planned retirement then..........

I was 30 in October and have been djing since I was about 13. I think im at a great age now as i can easily do 18ths or 21st and cater for the Wedding and older market. I have an open ear as far as music is concerned anyway.
dj.silver
This is a topic as a semi-wrinkly dj I have thought about a lot. On advertising leaflets I could put down 'over 30 years experience' and that is a truthful statement. However I feel that that could put potential clients off. So I put over 18 years.... IPB Image IPB Image

34 for this kid.. Startedon my own at 16 but been roadie-ing since 14.......Surley the older you are the better knowledge you have of music?

I can see you're point Steve but I think for Mobile work you need to have an open mind to differing genre's as well. Allthough saying that you can't beat having 'been around' the era that you're playing at the time.

DJ SPARKO
well the early 20s person only to give there age away yet on this topic which i find intersting. started at 16 and been at it for 5 year (do the math tongue.gif ) and a believe i have a great deal to learn yet very much but still at this moment in time i have had regular bookings and been recommended and asked for cards on numourous occassions. so i must be doing something right? as i hope like the older generation of djs here (no pun intended) that i get to my 30s, 40s and beyond if i,am still at it (i hope) that i will be 2, 3 or even more the dj i am !!

as its different takin tips and reading posts of older more experience djs to perform better than actually being there and having front row tickets to a more experienced dj performing to learn from which i believe is priceless as u cant put a price on experience its something you and YOU only can get!!! as who can say whos started djing for a year and or less and say i,ve got the talent and knowledge of a dj doing the job for say 10, 20, 30 or more years 533.gif

thats why i love reading posts and debates on here as it gives me a more experienced (FROM YOUR EXPERIENCE) of what the job is all about and how to PROPERALLY satisfy the client if its a great night of mediocer?

26 and i feel old but still. I would not say that if i was picking a dj i would worry about the age only how old they act.

My hairdresser told me that ear hair length denotes age. There may be certain implications if you can comb yours over!

48, and only just started up again after around a 26 year 'rest'.

And slowly getting more hair from my ears than on the rest of my head (but then that means that with a little light management, I have an extra lighting unit (moving spot))
