Hi all
Does anyone suffer 'stage fright' before a gig.
as most of you will know I am in my infancy into the DJ world, and I get butterflies hours before I am on. I wondered if this was part of the norm (Or just me...

)

Nope, never have (or, for that matter when I was in my band).
It's just something that's never affected me.

When I was in the band I used to be physically sick with nerves. It was worse if it was a small crowd, I preferred big festivals etc.
These days I do tend to get the odd nerve here and there but I think that's a good thing in a way.

Don't really get nervous as such, but I do 'panic' a little bit while I'm setting up, hoping that everything's ok and I start on time.

Still get nerves before and during and still get a buzz when the dance floor starts reacting. The nerves remind me of before I used to play rugby and the buzz is like when I went clubbing many years ago, only I know feel great in the morning and have a wad of cash to show for it!!!!!

You need a little bit of nerves, so you don't get complacent. I'm confident that I will do a good show but I am allways alert as to what can change.
Does anyone know what I mean?

I still get a feeling of anxiety before an adult gig, but that's simply because I don't perform frequently enough I reckon.
When I was doing a run of gigs back in the bad old days the nerves seemed to deminish.

I don't get complacent, I pay the same attention to each & every gig regardless of if it's a pub gig, kids party, wedding or charity ball.
I just don't suffer from nerves.

I don't get nervous that often now. Only if they seem like they may be a hard crowd. I am usually OK once they are up dancing.
When I first started a year ago, I used to get so nervous I could barley eat beforehand and my hands would shake so much I thought I wouldn't be able to change tracks smoothly. But as I had to do every night for 3 weeks it didn't take long before it wasn't so nerve racking.

Definately still get nervous..... I want everyone to have a great time... and that is my responsibility
My biggest moment always comes when the first dance is at 7pm at a wedding, and i think damm, now have to keep the mood going for the full 5 hours... there just isnt enough good music!!!
Then, once going begin to calm, as there certainly is enough good music.... but that bit always panics me.

I must say its different each time for me I think it has to do with how the day has gone and the set up, you know you get those times when you just cant get it right, and it takes forever to set up...
Or when you have a sticky customer having a go all night just puts you on edge....
Also have you noticed on a point made above that on a good night you seem to find great track after great track to play and it just flows but on the odd bad night its hard to decide on what to go next....
You know you put a killer tune on where 99.9% of gigs the DF fills but tonight no go...

I am just like Nik, it's the uncertainty that makes me nervous and also gives you a buzz when things go really well.

I get a twinge of butterflies in the stomach just before I speak on the mic for the first time. After that it just seems to happen (talking on the mic, that is) without thinking about it.
Oh yes, I also get butterflies in the stomach when I clear the floor.

I still get nervous before each gig. Especially if I am just sitting around at a wedding while background music playing......but once going I am generally to busy to think about it.
Agree about the 5 hours left to go tho..........lat week at wedding full dance floor after B&G first dance and for the next few songs.......then my brain just seemed to freeze ( mut be old age ) ...what the hell am I going to play for the next 5 hours I thought...................strangely enough the next time I looked at my watch ...I was asked to announce last orders....and the B&G were thanking me for a great night as they were about to leave.
Had I blacked out for 4.5 hours....where did the time go.......................then there are those nights where every minute seems like an hour. No one dances whatever you play.........until they are completely blotto and there is only 10 minutes to go...........then when you finish it's........."ahhhhhh go on mate just another few tracks"

I thought it was only me who experienced that, and I put it down to being a crap DJ;
I didn't realise you are a crap DJ as well!
