The deck (only one) switchs it self off and it is not me I will be cueing up the record and the deck that is playing will just switch off now it usually switchs back on very quickly so you would hardly notice it unless it's on 45 and then it switchs to 33! I got told that it was probably a power supply problem so a friend an I took the deck apart and re soldered a new lead and had a look around and then it was ok for a day and then it started to do it again.
But the problem with this is that it is a hard problem to explain really and I have my friend trying to fix it for me but he has not yet seen the problem as it happenes at random anyway if anyone knows any way of helping me and forum or website or anything I have tried panasonic but there customer care is crap and I also can't afford to take it to the shop especially when I have a friend who knows a lot about decks and could fix it if we could work out what needed fixing. HELP!!!!

That will be the switch doing it...

you can get a replacement switch for not very much money and its easy to change...

you might even be able to change for the new type thats harder to turn off with your sleve but dont quote me on that....

service manual for 1200/1210 available on the internet

You get alot of dry joints in ye olde technics decks, you have to remove the pcb and resolder. (More easy to say than it is to do as you have to remove the motor stator).

They are also susceptible to liquid ingress so check it hasn't had a drink, the liquid can get in through the pitch control and wick all the way through the cable to the main board where it continues to rot away...coke, beer and wine are great at this!

Certain ceramic capacitors can develop leaks around the motor controller ic and cause it to do daft things from running out of control to starting up on its own.
