...In fact, I'm playing more 12" records now than I have in the previous 5 years? I also use a pair of single Numark CD decks, but give me the warmth of sound from 'ye old wax' any day of the week!
So, Laptop DJ, CD's only, CD & vinyl or all three?

Normally use laptop and cd's
Occasionaly get asked to make sure i have a deck for vinyl, the local bowls club always book me and an old boy eric likes t have a few requests which i have on cd anyway but he reckons they sound better on vinyl.
Ive still got all me vinyl and would never ever part with it

I use occasional vinyl as there are some tunes I don't have on CD, but I try to avoid it where possible and I now only carry one deck.

I stopped using vinyl 5 years ago after an incident on a slippery fire escape (don't ask lol).
Decided that technology was taking me over and so am now in the same situation and wondering how long it will be before I dump the cd's and just take out me laptop

If you like to still use turntables and CD players why not ask santa for one of these bad boys
HERE bit pricey though.

I still use ye olde vinyl but only with one record deck - I just don't play vinyl enough to warrant 2 decks anymore - it's just that from time to time someone might request something that I've only got lurking only on vinyl (currently).
I'm getting a portable hard drive with CD burner in a month or so, with which I'll be recording a lot of my vinyl, not for DJ use at that time, only as a bod-in-the-street-type-person...who, according to the BPI are allowed to rip their own owned tunes without fear of prosecution. Once I've completed the task, then...I'll get the appropriate (or nearest) license for DJ'ing with those tunes, and at that point...no more vinyl will accompany me to gigs -

That's the approach I'm taking. It would take years to rip everything to hard disc, so I've started now - even though I currently have no intention for the hard disc drive to ever come to a gig with me.

havent used records in donkeys time. last time and very much so the only times were at 21sts as some dance records are better and you get the full version, better quality and easier to mix than cds in some cases.
but got turntables and mixer of around 800 quid in store room gathering dust....... more of a hobby than works use when i find time.

But for all the leaps in technology where music formats are concerned, I still feel more like a 'real' DJ when queing up and playing vinyl, which I'd always put down to being an age thing, but my 19 year old lad says the same!
I certainly don't miss all that jumping and feedback though. Brings to mind a particular village hall in my area, long since rebuilt, (ADS - that'll be Christow) where there was one small area just in front of the stage to my left where if someone jumped, it would sometimes make the record skip. Usually didn't take long for the word to spread amongst the youthful audience.....

I use CD's mainly at the moment but I do miss the vinyl. It just seemed easier to watch the position of the tone arm so you new when the track was about to end and have the next one cued up ready to go. I will confess that I am struggling to concentrate watching the numbers on the CD display go down before having to hit play for the next track. Have almost miss timed it a couple of times.

i have 2 x technics 1210s which i take to most gigs for teh club mixing and also to allow music that i only have on vynal to be played and incase anybody wants to bring some in. I much prefer using them to cds

Just an observation......
Going back a few years to when I used to work regularly - we're looking mid to late 90s here - occasionally someone would look over the front, and express a bit of surprise when they couldn't see a record going round on the deck:
"Where's the record, mate??"
The public have got used to DJs playing CDs a bit more now, but it still demonstrates that vinyl is expected - at least back then.
On the other hand, I recently (this year) had a kid approach me asking me where my laptop was.....

Another sign of the times for the landslade change in the DJs chosen media formats is when it becomes increasingly noticable that less and less DJs are able to spell vinyl / vynil / vynal / vinal....
Maybe thats another reason that CDs caught on so well; less letters.
