Hi Guys, Im just starting to get some kit together and its time to buy the CD player. At the moment its mainly for home use so im thinking budget (Cheap). Is anyone using the SoundLab CDJ-2110. What are they like ?. Any other advice on budget player

Thanks in advance
DJ Kay
Unfortunately I can't tell you much about the Soundlab CD players, but if you are thinking of playing out with it at all, some anti shock memory really comes in handy sometimes. If you,ve got the cash available try and upgrade to the next model the CDJ620a. Chris does them at very good prices.

I've got a Gemini CD240, which I'm very happy with and cost me £250 which is running through a 626 Pro 2 mixer. Current model is the CDX-602 (I think, Rob or Chris may need to correct me)

Although I am looking to upgrade to a model with seamless loop. The Pioneer CMX-3000 looks nice.

If you are looking for an Anti-Shock Dual CD Player, fully featured then I will have some coming in October priced around £165. Yes you did read that correctly:- £165 and don't be put off by the price, the features are amazing:- Pitch Control, Anti Shock buffer and they look the business and even though they are cheap they are not your "Fisher Price, my 1st CD Player smile.gif ". So if you can wait for a month or so, you could save yourself some serious £££ and get a bargain as well.
gazbar
Im always up for a bargain. Sounds interesting
Chrispy
I'll try and get hold of some photos and spec of it during the next few days.
Gary
Welcome to the forum.

Although not as "cost conscious" as £165... Have a look at the Gemini MP~3000x dual cd deck with full MP3 support. Theres a review of it in the "Audio Review" section of the forum.

Since the review was written, Gemini have added CD Text to that model..
YourBigEvent
Maybe some spec on the 650w amps you were getting in too
gazbar
The Gemini deck looks fantastic, But its way over what i want to pay, Actually do you have a price on these chris (quote me happy biggrin.gif ).

When things get going prperly i want to go the MP3 route, So the cd's would just be for backup. Im planning on a 19" rackmounted pc unless something better comes along.
YourBigEvent
19" rack mounted pc's are very expensive, and bulky I looked into it and if I were you I would look at a laptop, as you will only be using it for gigs you do not need the latest spec, a P2 500 would be more than enough and you can pick these up for about £350. Don't get pulled into the P4 3Ghz 80GB thing as you will be paying for goods you will not use. An external harddrive can be connected via USB and these are so cheap (120GB is about £100 now) and spend the money you have saved on more lights/speakers after all people will be impressed with your computer and if you look good, nice lights and sound, you will get repeat bookings. Hope this helps, any more question please ask away, it is why we are all here, to help each other.
The Spindoctor
Ads This external hard drive route via USB? Is it ok? Access times etc. Reason I ask is my laptops play fine but only have 6.5 gig hard drives. Every time i try to discuss this with the local shop they want to change the internal drive etc (at cost of course) Obviously if i can get away with an external 120 gig drive then problem solved. Your thoughts please.

Try this link:-

120gb drive
gazbar
The laptop idea is the best obviousely, but even the basic spec needed to play the mps is still quite expensive. I used to build and repair pcs alot so putting one together would not be a problem. I even thought about building the 19" case from maplin bits and bobs instaed of buying one.....Not sure about this though wacko.gif !

My main gig machine is a P3 500mhz with a 12gb hard drive and an external 120gb hard drive, works fine, I have even tried the external hard drive on a P2 266 mhz before I upgraded to my newer laptop. I didn't want the latest all singing all dancing machine because it was and only is, used at my gigs, then put away until the next gig, I have nothing else installed on it so I would have been buying bits I didn't need. I would recommend anyone to buy an external 3.5" hard drive, and caddy, as these are so much cheaper than internal 2.5" laptop hard drives. The only downside is that you need another 13amp socket to plug the caddy into.
YourBigEvent
Just looking at the link Chris posted, I would like to point out that my laptops are only USB 1.2 and not USB 2.0 as my machines are older models, you probably will not need USB 2.0 with most laptops/hard drives/USB
gazbar
Just out of curiosity (I know my spelling is c:cense:p). you guys that are playing from mp3, How many do you have stored on your gig machines. I have about 3000 and thats about 13gig. 120 gig would be about 30,000 tracks wacko.gif
YourBigEvent
It was about £20 more to buy a 120gb than a 80gb so I decided to go as big as I could (120gb was the biggest at the time, now you can get 200gb) From memory I have 6000 songs which takes up about 23gb. I also use one of the hard drives as a dumping ground too, putting back up stuff in there of my office work.
gazbar
I was worried there, I thought my collection was going ok untill i read the 120Gb thing.
The Spindoctor
Well carrying on from this, I can work an evening from about 2-3 gig with no problems.................... but the thought of 120g and all the records I can remember (and a lot i don't) that would be heaven!
Have you got so and so?? OF COURSE!!!

Back in the good old days (I only remember cos Mikeee told me) DJ's had to be good liars/diplomats "Well I actually have'nt got that track but I've got a version by............ or "I did have it but some Bast**d nicked it last week" or even smoother, " Its out on our second roadshow who are doing a corporate event"

Can you imagine how much it would cost to fill 120gig. 99.9% of my mp3 collection come from cd's that i own. I cant imagine trying to fill that much space the same way. Lets see now average 13 tracks per disk and say £9.99 per disk thats about 25 grands worth of CD's. Im going to have to start saving........ wacko.gif
The Spindoctor
Get saving then Gaz................. but when you've been around as long as I have and your first record was Fireball XL5 by the Flee Rekkers I reckon I've probably already spent well past that in the last 42 yrs

I'm sure there must be at least one copy of the "Purple People Eater" in Spins Collection laugh.gif

Dukesy
Well - as per usual, going slightly off topic (hee hee ho ho) I reckon Spin has a very interesting CD collection......in fact, even more off topic than choons, farther away from Hard Drives than expected.......

Spin - it's about time you used your vast experience and had your own quiz area for the forum!!!! (LOL)

Back on track - I'm waiting for a USB external Hard Drive for the Laptop.
Will post more spec details, cost, etc, as and when I get.
Dukesy
I can either purchase a USB2, 80Gb 10000 rpm (access speed of hard disc) for £200.00. It comes in a proper hard case.

OR

For £30 more, I could purchase a 120Gb Hard Drive at the slightly slower access speed of 7000 rpm for the total fee of £230.00

Spec:
7000 rpm HD Access = 48Mb per second transfer rate!
Both model drives are ideal for data intensive applications, digital, video and audio files.
But the ongoing debate, is Fire wire faster than USB2?
(USB2 is meant to be the fastest)

I will let you know what I get on Monday!!!!!!

YourBigEvent
Spin - Have you got anything 'good' in your collection because appartently I haven't according some censored.gif 's
gazbar
Being new to this DJ stuff i take notice of the tracks mentioned and try to add as many as possible to my collection. Ebay is a fantastic thing. I just cant help wondering how many times you have played the jasper carrot tune chris?.
The Spindoctor
No no no Gaz you got the wrong idea!! Play them???? Heaven forbid. No we just admit to owning them cos nobody else wants them!!

Spin 071.gif
YourBigEvent
No need to buy USB 2.0 I only use USB 1.0 and it is fine for £200 I would get a USB 1.0 caddy and a 200GB hard drive.
gazbar
I nearly got Rolf Harris graetest hits in asda yesterday, I settled for now 55 and Back 2 skool and new term instead. I now have vanilla ice in the collection. I new i was missing something!!!!!!!!!.
YourBigEvent
Ice Ice Baby.........Got asked for that last week !!
gazbar
Tp tune indeed, Out at a big party club last night, BAJA beach club if anyone knows it. The big tune of the night was definately the proclaimers 5000 miles
YourBigEvent
On another thread we are discussing playing a song 4 times in one night, you must have played The Proclaimers 10 times to get them 5000 miles and not 500 miles
gazbar
I realy wish it was me that played it, Unfortionately I ws there taking advantage of the cheap drinks now the students are back, But it was played twice, On the other hand ultrabeat was played about every 20 mins, Shame i used to like that track. What can you do though it filled the floor evey time.
