What's the difference between a smoke machine, a fogger and a hazer. Is there one or are they just the same thing???

A hazer produces haze (bit like steam from a boiling kettle), a smoke machine produces a denser smoke and I don't know about a fogger 533.gif

I have a Jem "Le Fog" smoke ( or fog ) machine and a Jem Technohaze hazer.

The former puts out a relatively thick blanket of fog or smoke whilst the latter produces a translucent film - just enough to accentuate light beams.

Hardly ever ( if ever ) use either of them. Most hotels and dedicated wedding venues don't allow their use. That apart, even a hazer may set off a fire alarm.

My "Le Fog" uses preloaded canisters but most machines use a refillable tank or bottle. In this case liquids are available to produce dense or light fog/smoke.

Thanks for that. One of the downsides of the smoking ban here in Scotland is that your moonflowers and scanners now look s censored2.gif e, so I'm going to invest in a smoke machine, although I think a hazer would be the best bet, and I'll only use it at about 11.30pm so by the time we've evacuated and waited for the fire brigade and they've searched the premises to confirm that there's no fire it'll be time to go home whistling.gif

A smoke machine and a fogger are pretty much the same thing depending on where you are in the country!

A dedicated haze machine produces a finer particle from special fluid and blows it out dispersed by a fan. Haze is generally invisible in the air (unlike heavy smoke) and only highlights light beams....unless you pump it out like an idiot!

Some machines are combined into a universal unit eg. Antari Fazer.

I'm just looking for a basic machine that'll highlight my moonflowers now we have the smoking ban in Scotland. Any suggestions???

As far as reliability goes, Jem (Martin) are about the best. Some of the smaller models eg Magnum and Technofog are available very reasonably now, though the ZR series are the type most installers use. They also make machines for other brands.

The cheaper chinese ones (and anything under about 80 quid!) may seem good value but they tend to suffer from scaling up especially if they dont see much use; this is when limescale solidifies due to evaporation. The cheap ones have small heater, small pump and small bore pipes....opposite for the better ones.

Having said that, the cheap ones may be considered disposeable, though a little inconvenient if you only discover they're duff at a venue. huh.gif

And dont skimp on fluid! They're best used with the manufacturer's own fluid..esp. the Jem machines.

i've got a cheap one... it puts out more of a mist than a huge plume of smoke...
that's the worst thing when you're on the dance floor and suddenly get engulfed!
