Youch! - Plasa weekend.
I think that it might be time to start phoning around the transit van rental companies...or estate cars, or even possibly Trailer rental places, depending on how much gear you've got to move.
What sort of distance is it between those two places?

If your over 21 and have a driving licence then hiring shouldn't be a problem. Try some of the privately owned businesses before the larger Kenning / Avis etc type outlets since you can usually get a better deal.
If this is a problem, or age / no licence restricts you from hiring then check your local papers for one of those "man with van" hire outfits. Basically somebody who has the use of a van and moves around furniture, rubbish etc for people. You may have to pay a little bit more for them to collect you at 12.30AM!, but they are usually very reliable and since its usually cash in hand....cheap!.

Maybe even try waving the White Flag in front of your roadie - sometimes a plate of humble pie can get you out of the shite...and a chat over a beer can often work wonders. You'll probably have to speak to him again at some point, so better sooner rather than later?, Take it from me - life is too short

If it is no too far, maybe a mate with a car and do it in 2 or 3 trips. Hiring an estate car is probably cheaper than a van. I had to hire a van once when I had a dodgy Nissan Urvan that broke down on a Friday night, I ended up out of pocket but that is one of the pitfuls of self employment I'm afraid.
