When my lights are all controlled by the DMX desk, is there anything that can be put in line with the lights to return them to sound/light mode?
I know you can flip the dips on the back of them, but if they're high up, this could prove a little tricky....
High Fidelity
Simple answer - no!!

I was hoping with mine that either disconnecting the DMX cable or turning the desk off would make the lights switch back to Sound to Light, but it doesn't work that way.

Having said that, your Dynatwins appeared to switch back to auto or sound to light when we turned the desk off.

Some lights will revert back to standalone mode when no DMX signal is present, others don't. Just another thing to consider when making your purchase
NiM
Some also allow you to whack them back into S2L mode using DMX (EVL star is one that does this)

....as do the Showtec LED Par56 cans thumbup.gif
NiM
.. and the Roboscan 812s

I got the freestyler fixture file for the LED pars if you want them Mr Brian?

And Martin Acrobat..and lots more these days!!

What fixtures have you got? If you can engage S-L mode by DMX then it'll tell you in the manual.

The lights that run on my desk are
Ultima 3G
Source Celebration
Acme Dynatwins

The dynatwins go to audio automatically when there's no DMX signal - but it means turning the desk off.

Have you thought of getting a technician to fit a jack socket that would allow you to plug in a remote switch on a wire if you wanted to revert back to sound to light it’s just a thought but it would work

Unplug the cable?

Make a box with in/out sockets which has a lift on the +ve?

This is normally done via a DIP switch. Its best not to run external cables direct to the PCB as it will be susceptible to external noise which may crash the processor. Any external facilities provided are 'buffered', filtered and debounced to deliver a 'clean' signal to the input of the microprocessor. Besides, many microcontrollers only 'look' at the state of the DIP switches at power-on and ignore them at all other times.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the DMX values of your lights so can't comment on the availability of remote S-L selection, it will definitely be in the manual though so that's the best place to start.

Most budget DMX lighting effects, particularly those from the Far East usually have very poor instruction manuals with little infromation in them. Quite often only a sheet or two of A4.

Yeah I know. And yet most of this far eastern stuff is imported into the UK by well established UK distributors, how hard would it be for them to get a proper english instruction sheet drafted and a photocopy included with each unit shipped?

An example is the German distributor Monacor International. They handle the IMG Stageline brand and their manuals are always glossy well-written efforts, they look professional and yet their stuff originates in China like anyone else's.
