Anyone been/planning on going?

Just got back and had a great, if not tiring day of blagging drinks, t-shirts, anything going....

Could have signed some very large cheques today if the chance had availed itself :)

Make sure you check out the Void and Funktion 1 demo rooms if you do, both rooms had problems with fixtures and fittings pulling themselves away from the fabric of the room today!

Hope there's something left by Wednesday.

Didn't find the Void room, but did find the F1 room, funny how the lights in the ceiling were resonating! This is the first time I took Louise, we we walked in she was amazed by the lights and the general buzz in the place, loved it. We spent 4 hrs there! Met up with a few old faces, saw a few celebs: John OO Flemming, Dan Tait, Nim...

Hope u had a press pass taking those pics! Cameras are banned at PLASA!!

We decided not to go for the first time this year because it's become very much studio and theatre orientated. The small companies have almost all been swallowed up by larger companies and personal service is terrible unless you're talking thousands of pounds business. Yes, it's a trade show I know, but I always enjoy innovation and that seems a little stale at the moment!

Popped along late this afternoon around 4pm with my freebie ticket... Yawn. All done by 5.45.

Seemed a bit lacking without the likes of Denon, Pioneer, Cerwin-Vega, Citronic (erm, even Citronic!) Abstract had quite an uncharacteristically tiddly stand.

What I really miss is hearing lots of awesome thumping sound demos from speaker manufacturers. HK were the only people actually demoing their compact gear, albeit at pretty modest levels. Everyone else didn't seem to be kitted up for sound tests. I was quite looking forward to a fix of Funktion One and Void. Yes, sexy to look at, but come on ... we want to hear them rock!!!

Did have quite a bit of fun playing with Pioneer's new DVJ1000 and DJM800 - lots of toys, good kit, put a smile on my face!

I'm pretty sure I stood next to Robbie and Carol in the Gemini DJ comp. Both wearing shirts with something to do with the DJ Show North on.

Robbie gave me "the evils" laugh.gif

Come help us destroy ceiling tiles at the u18s night!

I'll remember to bring my Chavvy Bass Test CD thing. Nova-tastic

Here Here, I heard this. The disco show North is more suited, but then that is called Mobile disco show North.

How could you miss Pioneer? It was huge.

You also failed to find the 2 most rocking rooms in the building, the FK1 and Void demo rooms. Void had about 70k of amps running their setups and FK1 destroyed most of the fixtures in their room with the bass.

I have to say Pioneer's stand - or should I say "Pioneer GB / Mixmash" (stand B64) - was barely recognisable, as this year it was a fraction of its usual floor allocation, compared to the last 4 years at least. From memory they had as little as 4 DJV1K video players, a couple of DJM800s and an EFX1000, but that was about it. If you're saying it was huge on "DJ Sunday" - maybe they took away a lot of kit after that day ended? Dunno. WestEnd DJ had a bigger plot along the proportions of latter year Pio efforts, with a DJ booth/stage & series of live DJ's keeping the passers-by entertained.

There may have been other less obvious sound demo rooms, however I did visit both Funktion One (stand BB5) and Void (stand CC7) but none of their gorgeous kit appeared to be wired up whatsoever and their reps were negotiating with overseas visitors. From the way you describe it, I really must have missed out on some other section of the show (sigh!) though it wasn't listed on the pocket guide or documented on the website, or maybe again it was a Sunday special only? Bah sad.gif

Nope they were there for the duration as far as i'm aware, they both had separate suites with a range of fully functional kit. We knew about the rooms so we asked where they were but i suppose it required one of the stands to volunteer the information otherwise.

FK1 had their new 21" versions of the F218 and 2 infrabass with horn extension plus a range of Res4, 5, 9, etc

Void had their Stasys 8 and Stasys 3 main rig, plus Air Motion, Mycro, the new smaller Air Motion thing whose name escapes me now.... lots to see and hear.

Both rooms had the designers (Tony Andrews and Rog Mogale) of the respective systems on hand to demo too, and answer questions.

There's always next year, and now you know about you can make sure you take it in! :)

Talking to my Ex-boss yesterday. He normally spends anything up to £20K at the show. This year he was bored by 1 o'clock and spent about £2K with Martin and nothing else with anyone. HE says it was awful for the mobile guys. 533.gif

I went yesterday and there was minimal evidence of Pioneer, no stand of their own, just them cookoo'ing in on the Mix Mash stand.

Around 30% of my time was spent up on the third floor in the Martin Lighting "Green Room" - some interesting stuff.

Next years PLASA is promising to be a much improved affair - some key differences to the organisation that run PLASA are in the pipeline - hopefully this will mean a noticable reverse to the last couple of years trends of less & less mobile exhibitors, and such highly priced floor space.
superstardeejay
I think this year both Pioneer and Mixmash are pushing their DJ DVD products, market surveys (and personal experience) seems to show that bars everywhere are installing Plasma screens and customers are beginning to expect video played along with music. Alot of this (eg M&B / Yates's) is done by PC but I would imagine an all-in-one machine would be more user/DJ friendly.

Not such a money spinner in the mobile market but suppliers nowadays chase the big money. (ie bar chains.) as demonstrated by recent PLASA exhibitors.
