With the PLASA drawing ever closer time to list those members who are in with a chance of winning:-
Kazzi Wazzi Wooo - 12,912
DJKray - 13,076
Mikeee - 13,500
JJacob - 13,500
5Star - 13,886
Gary - 14,500
On this new version you can view the current post count at the bottom of the main forum page

don't forget that we will be deducting the total post's in the Private Mods & Admins area to prevent cheating

and since this doesn't really count towards the actual forum content.

I think Ian must have been talking to Derek Acorah, or another medium and got the prediction that I would

up the forum upgrade and we would have to start from 0 posts again.
Which means that had it happened then he would have stood a very good chance of winning!

Im still curious as to what Mikeee will do with the Radio mic, and what JJacob will do with the receiver.
Unless they only live 100 metres apart...
Mind you...have anyone seen any pposts from JJacob in recent weeks?
The last of his 8 posts was in June. Maybe we should announce the winners at the agreed time, and in the announcement, state that the winner must claim his/her prize within a certain amount of time. EG: 4 seconds...
Doh!
Sorry, I meant 4 weeks.

How many posts are in the mods section and is that number included in the main number for the forum.
Chrispy
Sep 2 2003, 12:29 PM
Total Number of posts in the Mod section is currently 352
This is included in the forum total at the bottom of the page, so you will need to dig out your calculator!. However the Mods area posts will not be included in the competiton.

12591 as of 13.34 on 02.09.03 and only 4 and a bit days to go. Come on Gary you need only post another 1909, thats 477.25 per day, 19.88 per hour every hour day and night.

Argh! I calculated too high....
Unless theres an extremely surprising surge of LEGITIMATE posts in the next few days, I dont think that the mic will be heading my way (on its way to make money for a childrens charity somewhere - as I promised in another post)
Obviously any winner needs the posts to be "their" side of the half way point, between their guess and the guess directly above and below them. Since my guess of 14,500 is the highest guess, and 5stars' was the nearest guess below me, the critical post count (for 5star and I, is 14193). If its above that number, I win the mic...if its between 5stars guess and 14193, he gets it...
OK, I could theoretically post, post, post, post, post between now and Plasa. But Im not about to get labelled as a spammer, possibly a cheater, generate bad feeling amongst members (notably the shortlisted finalists), and possibly put my moderator role on the line, for some audio equipment.
Hmmm now if the prize was a four-pack of Abstract VRX lights...then maybe....

NAH! still not then either.

The difference is probably down to either test posts that might have been generated (and then deleted) when the forum was first started.
Alternatively, there have probably been a few "nutters" who have posted their comments which were only worthy for nothing more than deletion.
Either of the above events would have increased the Post ID numbers (to which you're refering to), but deleted posts would not (once deleted) get included in the "forum total posts" counter. As I understand it.

Didn't Chris limit the competiton to members with a certain level of posts?. surely that would rule out JJacob with only 8, and I would hate to see a member with zero interest in the forum walk away with the prize
YourBigEvent

Gary I thought they were included. I have just tried something. I posted, and my total posts went up by one post as it does, I then deleted the last post I made but my total posts stayed at the increased mark, so as I look at it, I could post 100 times and delete the 100 posts, my post counted would be increased by 100 and then not decreased so therefore I presume the total post count would have been increased by 100 too and then not decreased either but stay at the increased (+100) count.
So don't be alarmed if you see increased activity here at 4.30am in the morning....

well luckily... Rule 4 from the original competition post helps us out here, especially when considering that JJacobs guess is identical to Mikee's - both guessed 13,500.

| (4) The winner will be the person closest to the actual post count taken at 12.01AM on Sunday 7th September 2003. In the event of a draw - a tie break will be set in order to declare the winner. Delivery will be made within 7 working days of the winner being announced. |
I would imagine that if one of the two tie-breakers (if their 13,500 is the nearest to the actual post count), doesnt respond at all to the tie-breaker question, then the other person would win.
The tie breaker question could be:
Where is Mikeee right now?
Or
What will be the total post count on September 10th 2025

Yes, your postcounter ID would still increment (go up), but the forum total counter wouldnt.
Its a bit like a builder building a row of houses...he makes house number 1 (twedesmere gardens)...number 2, number 3, etc...all the way up to say...number 200.
He then has to knock down houses numbered 100, 101, 102 (that subsidence gets everywhere)...so even though the highest numbered house is 200, theres only 197 houses left to count.
(Wierd example...but the only one I could think of right now)

Nice thought ADS, although I can still access all of your deleted posts, so if I see 100 deleted posts in your log file, then Gary gets to test the Warning System

- just thought i'd mention that in case any of the membership get ideas!

I've just done a bit of calculation, to work out the "halfway mark" between each of the shortlisted entrants to the competition.
Kazza guessed will win if posts (after mod/admin area deductions) are between 12,912, and 12994.
DJ Kray will win if the posts (after mod/admin area deductions) are between 12995 and 13288.
Mikee (or the elusive Jjacob) will win if the posts (after mod/admin area deductions) are between 13289 and 13693
5Star will win if the posts (after mod/admin area deductions) are between 13694 and 14193
And I will win if the posts (after mod/admin area deductions) is above 14193...
Quick question to Chris. Every area has its replies...but each area also has its original post/topic counters. Are both the original starting topic AND the replies included in the total post counter at the botton of the main screen, or are the starting topic posts counted/totaled elsewhere and need to be added in?

So Chris, with regards to my comments above about Posts/Topics and replies... Is it 52 (topics) AND 365 (replies) that we have to deduct from the Admin area? eg: take 417 posts off of the post counter? or just the 365?
Im not sure if the main post counter at the bottom of the main page counts both, or not.
Chrispy
Sep 4 2003, 11:15 AM
The 417 is the correct answer!, either way I think at the mo, its pretty obvious who its going to be!.

Sep 4 2003, 12:56 PM
Once you take off the deductions, i think that DJ Kray or Mikeee stand a pretty good chance.
Of course, if Mikeee wins, we will have to change his name to "Radio mikeee"
And the tension is rising....(hmm reminds me of a song that...

I think that you stand a really good chance DJ Kray...
The posts are ....just...entering your "win zone" (shown above), and there are normally less posts on Fridays and Saturdays, than during the rest of the week, probably due to the fact that many of us are working on those nights.
You'll win if the posts (after mod/admin area deductions, of about 428 posts) are between 12995 and 13288.
As I edit this post right now....the current post total is...13373, with 428 to deduct, leaving a competition post count total of...12945...
Which means you've won, as long as the at least 50 more posts are made, but not more than 293 more, between now and the closing date/time...Saturday midnight/Sunday 00:00:01 - Else (radio) Mikeee wins it... or 5Star, if the post count goes through the roof.
Good Luck to all those short-listed (with more realistic post counts than my sky high guess-timate)
Gary
Sep 6 2003, 11:53 PM
Well, well, well (three deep holes with water at the bottom)
Its just gone midnight on Saturday, which means that the radio mic competition has ended.
There were 13540 posts displayed at the foot of the main page a moment ago, but that figure includes 43posts in the admin/moderator section, which were never to be part of the competition.
Therefore, that figure of becomes 13102 total posts as of the midnight before Plasa.
To be 100% fair, we must wait for Chris to announce the winner, as its his competition, but that figure does sound remarkably close (less than 30 posts) away from one of the members guesses....
