to pass away a couple of hours on a sunday afternoon, i decided to have a look at this "Americanism" The Money Dance.

Now according to Wikipedia

"The concept of "Money Dance" is that the male guests pay for the privilege of dancing with the bride, and by extension, female guests pay for the privilege of dancing with the groom. The custom originated in Poland and is still celebrated at many ethnic and blue-collar weddings today. The money is to be used for the bride and groom's honeymoon or to give them a little extra cash with which to set up housekeeping"

Now it appears not just to be an American idea but was started by European settlers and is still regularly done in Portugal, Hungray, the Ukrain et al.

So has anyone organised a money dance and with what result....

and before it starts i dont mean the dj chasing payment at the end of the night. biggrin.gif

I've done something similar at Greek weddings, where the guests pin money to the bride's train.

I have done the "Dollar" dance at a couple of American weddings, but I can't see it working very well, if at all with the Terribly, Terribly, stiff upper lip brits - tacky. Serbian, Greek have the bridegroom and best man dancing with pint pots baleanced on their heads and people come up and fill it with money. I did one many years age were the B & G danced and people threw money at them.

If you do one make sure you tell everyone it will be going on for 5/10 minutes only otherwise it will take hours to complete.
