Christmas, so I informed the bride and groom on Friday, is only 117 days away...and right now, its only 115 days away...

Which means that some of us will be starting our main run of Christmas Office parties in less than 80 days.

Now dispite what sounds "OK" to listen to, when queueing up in Woolworths on a wet December Saturday, I find very few of the Christmas songs on the various "NOW thats what I call Christmas" or "Best Christmas Album in the world EVER!" are actually any good on the dancefloor...(surprise surprise, I hear some of you scrooges call nono.gif )

OK, So, Slade: Merry Christmas Everybody works a treat (Once December is into double figures anyway), and Mariah Careys "All I want for Christmas is you" does too, as does The Waitresses (or Spice Girls if pushed) "Christmas Rapping". For a harder uptempo surpirse, try Yello's version of "Jingle Bells" ... very fast, but definately as clubby as it gets....

Also useful is Queens live version of "We will rock you" where Bryan May, suddenly strums up "Jing le Bells, Jing le bells" over the top of the usual "beat beat clap...beat beat clap" rhythm.

But, what Festive tunes do YOU find work well on the dancefloor in that most prosperous month for most genuine DJ's?

well christmas songs, this is going to one of those topics were I differ from everyone else, I am not a big fan of christmas tunes, and at most office parties only ever play 1 or 2 if any.

As an Anti-Christmas type person, I have only one thing to say....

with christmas starting earlier & earlier, and christmas tunes being played in the shops from late sept early october, I have had enough of chritmas music, and I take the attitude that the hillmans have as well, so avoid it.

although I think the best Xmas CD is the Phil Spector Xmas Album

I noticed today that Woolworths have got a small selection of Christmas Trees out on display...probably last years remnants which they've just discovered under a pile of last years Easter Eggs. laugh.gif

However, the Card shop that I went into this morning had several rolls of Christmas paper...so...they're obviously getting ready for it.

Quick Christmas Joke then...

Q) Did you hear about the Elf who swallowed a Christmas decoration? (highlight the area below for answer).

A) He got TINSELitus

I agree with Ian - it was a good album!

I think, over the last ten years - Christmas 'Songs' or tunes have been over played, over used, over hyped and over cooked.

Apart from the party favourite of shouting - not singing "Slade", and revellers acting the t.w.a.coffee......I will only play Xmas songs if requested - and only requested.

The spirit of Xmas (as I personally view it) is too commercial and forgotton.

I concentrate on the family and look back on the previous year - looking forward to the new!!!

Also, I don't think of it as a case of Bah Humbug!!!!!! More like a case of Fosters, followed by crisps, peanuts, alcho jelly shots, stuffing, turkey, roasties - desert - presents, Top of the Craps, Madge, 007 or Julie Andrews, Disney - screaming kids, two faced thank-yous and conceiving practice.

Favourite all-time Christmas song - Feed The World thumbup.gif (What a Beat pop swingers!)
Paul Smith
If I had my way at Christmas functions I'd only play festive tunes for the last 10-15 mins, however the venue that I'm at get complaints if not enough are played so it's a 10 min mix every hour. The best one to finish with is Kirsty McCall & the Pogues - Fairytale of New York kid.gif

Christmas mix idea:

Jona Lewie - Stop the cavalry...

with

Robbie Williams: Rock DJ.

Maybe we should make this a separate thread...next pairing of a Christmas track with a non-christmas track please....

Dj_Kray
