Ah...are talking of "remixes" here, or cover versions?
I might have it mixed up (

), but I was of the understanding that a remix was where the original artists efforts (usually vocals) were used but additional, or different instruments, and sometimes a different BPM were applied.
Wheras a cover version, was more the sort of Beatfreakz style treatment - where the new group themselves sing / play the whole thing from scratch, their way.
I'm tending to drift away from anything apart from radio versions, unless a particular remix starts to become the norm. If I need the track to last longer that normal, I'll loop a section of it once, twice, three times (.....a laaaady).
Its a bit like the 80's 12inch singles - the extended remix normally used to be the same as the 7 inch one, but 3/4's of the way through, it broke down into about 2 minutes of wishy washy instrumental bit...
