These days there are loads of old tunes that have been re-mixed as dance tracks,

ie beatzfeaks
Sunblock
Digital dog
Sunset strippers

latest big one being Super mode--Tell me why or DJ Alex &Ellewood---Small town boy.

and many many more. Some are good while others are poor. I personally think Nikki French--Total eclipse of the heart is best one I`v heard..

What is your favourite and least favourite?

gotta say that i am fed up with the endless glut of 1980s songs remixed over what seems to be the drone of a demo feature of a 1986 bontempi keyboard with the odd vocal whine of some unknown 17 year old American cheerleader wallbash.gif is there no talent in writing your own music anymore whistling.gif

Probably my favourite mixes are off Musicfactory/DMC CDs..

Most are rubbish, but the remix of Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 on Mastermix 217 really goes down well on a lot of occasions.

As to commercially released remixes, things like Call On Me by Eric Pridz is probably the most annoying song ever released (apart from Crazy Frog stuff!) but I think the best old song re-release is probably Cut N Move and Give It Up (the old KC and The Sunshine Band track).

Possibly not what you were thinking of (although if I had to pick a new, new track it would be Sunblock I Am Ready as it wasn't completely repetative and boring...

My favourite at the moment for the silly bit of the night is The Grids "Swamp thing" with the George Formby classic "When i'm cleaning windows" mashed into it. Its a winner. Especially when played along with such luminaries as Cotton Eye Joe by the Rednex. My favourite remix at the moment that actually is a very good track but perhaps a bit heavy for the sort of Gigs i do (i say remix, its more of a mash up) is Blondies "Rapture" mashed up with The Doors "Riders on the storm".

So there you have it.

I do play rubbish!!

Ah...are talking of "remixes" here, or cover versions?

I might have it mixed up ( rolleyes.gif ), but I was of the understanding that a remix was where the original artists efforts (usually vocals) were used but additional, or different instruments, and sometimes a different BPM were applied.

Wheras a cover version, was more the sort of Beatfreakz style treatment - where the new group themselves sing / play the whole thing from scratch, their way.

I'm tending to drift away from anything apart from radio versions, unless a particular remix starts to become the norm. If I need the track to last longer that normal, I'll loop a section of it once, twice, three times (.....a laaaady).

Its a bit like the 80's 12inch singles - the extended remix normally used to be the same as the 7 inch one, but 3/4's of the way through, it broke down into about 2 minutes of wishy washy instrumental bit... sleep1.gif

Seamus Haji (Haji and Emanuel) seems to be a quality workoholic on the remix front, and I find his work very very good.

At the moment

Remix - Whitney Houston - I want to Dance with Somebody (Hot Tracks Remix)

Cover - Supermode - Tell me why.
Corabar Steve
Youth's "Dog Star Rising" remix of the Cult's "She sells sanctuary" has to be my favourite remix.

Meridith Brookes "Funky E Team Edit" of "Bitch" & the dancy (unknown mix, but it's on Go Wild With The Party Animal (Disc 1))
mix of Pulp - "Disco 2000" are quite good too
Danno13
The Phats and Small remix of EW&F's September is pretty high up on my list.

Also the Mauve Mix of Dirrty by Christina Aguilera.

All the Maurice mixes of Beyonce / Destiny's Child stuff are excellent too...
