R n B (Rhythm and Blues yeah?) how come this name is applied to the modern day hits by such artists as Nelly, Destinys Child, Usher etc when RnB should really apply to the old stax and Liberty labels with artists such as Otis Redding, Brenton Wood etc etc. Discuss!

For me, today's R&B should come under the Urban banner, but then again, what do I know?

ITs now "Rap and Black" not "Rhythm and Blues"
and should be "urban" music, and not even the sheep who listen to it can tell you much about it...

Yeh man, i is in the vee aye pee and am kickin it innit. I hate r n b (well, that stuff they mistakenly call r n b). Why are all the "r n b" artists always in the v.i.p. with their ho's? I can actually write "r n b" songs and am not a musician. Sing along to my version of Craig Davids Seven Days.
I took her for a burger on Monday
Then i took for another on Tuesday
We had fallen out by wednesday
Didn't speak thursday friday or Saturday
Found a new ho on Sunday.

I regard them as Soul artistes.
R&B ( original meaning ) preceded soul and is more Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Lazy Lester, Tommy Tucker, Joe Turner etc.

Joe Turner was the king! Listen to his version of Shake Rattle and Roll to see how it was watered down by Bill Haley.
I loved the original lyric of
"Wear those dresses, the sun come shining thru,
Can't believe my eyes, all of this belongs to you."

Then the British beat groups of the 60's put their spin on it......
Rolling Stones, the Who, the Pretty Things, the Animals, the Yardbirds etc
