Hi
Can anyone tell me i they have had a better response to getting 'em up' at a wedding disco, then DIANA ROSS CHAIN REACTION I hate the song, but every time I get a wedding/40th/50th party This gets them going? WHY?????
Is there another song that you find has the same reaction, as I am sick of having to sell my soul to the devil and play this!
Cheers
Chris

agreed....

There are numerous songs i don't like playing, but your being payed to entertain your audience, and play what they want to hear, not what you want to hear! biggrin.gif

I feel similarly about dancing queen by Abba.

If all else fails dancing queen usually works however playing it weekend after weekend for years on end I have grown to hate the song.

The same goes for playing YMCA with the party stuff later in the evening. When I decide to give up doing the disco's I will gladly take a hammer to the CD with this song on.

Unfortunately the other comments are correct, they are songs that always seem popular and as a result are essential for pleasing the majority of crowds.

Eskie took a load of tunes that DJs listed and made a Big list for one of the other DJs ... take a look at it as a good 80% of it would keep a 30y/o + crowd of people happy in the more party upbeat sections of a wedding disco..

sorry to lazy to find the link right now tongue.gif

I like Diana Ross but rarely play her songs however I just might tonight smile.gif

I find Build Me Up Buttercup (pitched up by 4%) works for me - sometimes!!
Andy Westcott
I've often used Patrice Rushen's Forget Me Nots as a starter for the night. Not what you might call upbeat, but steady, and easy to handbag to.

Also recall using M People's Sight For Sore Eyes in the same manner.

I have just had the worst gig of my life............. the first request was for Black lace - superman ( I knew it was gonna be a great night after that)

followed by .... yep......... Amarillo, YMCA , Agadoo, .......in fact cheeeeeeeeese all night...... ( I managed to avoid the birdie song luckily .... but it was probably the only one I didnt play.)

But it got them all in from outside and they danced their socks off.

Unfortunately we have to give the customer what they want, I packed up DJ'ing in the late 70's because I was sick of playing the same old music.......... now it's 2006 and I find myself playing the same old music.

No doubt in 30 years time Chain reaction will still be being played....... but how many songs from 2006 will............ not many me thinks, if any.

errr and getting back on track.............. the one that always works for me is Michael Jackson - Billie jean or Dance the night away - Mavericks, I normally save Chain reaction for later rolleyes.gif

I'd expect Chain Reaction would be a good floor filler at a Plumbers Ball. smile.gif

If I could just set the scene from one of my gigs at the weekend.............

It was a venue where they move them all out after the meal to re-set the room. When the guests were told that everything was ready they stormed in and couldn't wait to get going.

For the next 2 hours the dancefloor was full (well it was small smile.gif ) and they were even dancing on the carpet. During the buffet when the house lights came up I played a few 'Big Band' numbers & still they danced.

Onto part 2 and with a bit of Rock N Roll (never fails - well OK occasionally) the whole place was going wild with whatever I put on etc....................

So you get the picture then from the back of my brain cell I remembered this topic and put on Chain Reaction and everyone sat down signdammit.gif When I analysed this I felt that had I used the version by Steps (or was it S Club 7 533.gif ) the dancefloor would've kept busy - just wrong song at the wrong time but I did play 30 secs of it biggrin.gif

Maybe it'll work this week (if I remember)
BigBen
I expect most of us try to stick to tried and tested tracks - Mavericks, Foundations, Van Morrison, Abba, etc. But it can be really rewarding to try and find that elusive track by speaking to the party-goers before the buffet and finding out what they like. You may find a track that got them all up on the hen night, or maybe a previous party or when a group of them went to a gig (Take That have been popular this summer). Whatever, it can be good fun finding out and seeing the results.
