Hi,

I've been booked for a wedding in a couple of weeks. The couple, who are in their 30s, have seen me a few times at parties and I got the booking on the strength of that. My style is very party oriented, but it has been years since I did a wedding (used to run a mobile in the late 70s/80s - now just a hobby business, about 4 gigs a year).

I wondered if there are any tracks that you would consider as essential for me to have for a wedding? Things that I might not have come across at a 'normal' party.

The other question would be

"What's your top 3 slow tracks?"

Any help you can give is much appreciated!

Ralph.

Cliff Richard... Congratulations biggrin.gif

top slowies for me

Rod Stewart or Van Morrison...Have i told you lately that i love you
Billy Medley... Time of my life
and for some reason this gets alot of requests

Aerosmith..Dont wanna miss a thing patriot.gif
Andy Westcott
Phyllis Nelson - Move Closer
Donna Summer - Love To Love You Baby
Poni-Tails - Born Too Late

I'd treat this wedding disco as any other party - that's what it is, after all, and they are presumably expecting you to do what you did when they saw you - don't disappoint!
The only possible difference might be a buffet break and a first dance.

I think absolutely that you have been booked on the strength of what they have seen you do and thats what they want for their wedding. In your place i would get in touch with them and ask them if they require anything different. not only will this help you but it will also reinforce their confidence in you.

Top three slowies for weddings:

Gladys Knight - You're the best thing that ever happened to me
Robbie - She's the one
Van Morrison - Have I told you lately.

Depending on the crowd you might not even have to play any slowies apart from the first dance... and these days sometimes the first dance ain't even slow!
However if there are a few elderly people then you will almost certainly need some slowies, but Ive done a few weddings where it was mainly a younger crowd and didn't play any slowies, and nor were any requested.

Thanks for the ideas!

Just checked my collection - don't have Cliff's congrats..... that's exactly the reason I posted - thanks Tony (how could I have forgtten about that? oops.gif )

Any other obvious tracks you'd always have with you at a wedding?

By-the-way, I already had a meeting set up with the b&g to check out any particular requirements, but thanks for those who suggested it - I agree it is an essential thing to do.

done a wedding last year for a young couple early 20's and was asked on the night to choose one for them, so i stated it was from the groom to the bride and played david gray - this years love and both bride and groom and and some of the family was overwhelmed and said it was absolutely amazing.

got a couple more bookings off that one

Ask the Bride and groom for 5 of their favourite tracks each that they would liked played, this will give you an idea of what they will be expecting then combine them into your normal playlist !
