Yes Folks, it's almost complete, the DJU Members Database.

This will be an area dedicated to listing D.J's and being searchable by the general public. This means that you can enter all of your roadshow details, including a D.J Profile, Area's Covered and a comprehensive description of your show. Once i have completed the software you will also be able to upload a photograph of your roadshow - a picture paints a 1000 words etc smile.gif .

It will also be searchable by anybody looking for a DJ for their event. For instance, if a customer types in "Kent" as being their location, and 60's as being their prefered music type, then the database will produce the listings of all the D.J's who have added "Kent" into their areas covered and "60's" in their Music Played section!. Then the customer just clicks on the "View DJ" tag to view that particular D.J's page!.

Over the next few months it will be promoted widely, and I have several other entertainment ideas which will be "bolted on" to add to it's success. I'm also looking at possibilities of adding an availability calender to it for each DJ to list his / her available dates.

Oh and most appealing of all......it's free (For DJU Members) and will be international so no DJU Member gets left out!.

Bleedin ell, that's gonna be a lot of work blink.gif
It's a great idea though. I regularly receive enquiries for dates I'm already booked on; I could then just tell them to look at the database to choose/find a dj.

That sounds great notworthy.gif

DJU.... taking over the world!! Good idea crispy! Hopefully some of the newbies will get a lot of use out of it - anything helps eh! notworthy.gif

I think that new members will see the potential benefits of a free database - and I hope new members feel confident to contribute to the forum!

I would like to echo some previous comments - the amount of hits that the site gets - try the search engines and type in, say your user name, and hey presto!!!!!

So the odds are increased for all!!!!!

CP has worked very hard - never mind a pint at PLASA - he deserves a holiday!!!!!

Well done CP - hang in there, I'm sure it may 'get you down' from time to time just pumping away at the keys, but like Kazza's 'future readings', I can see a very good future for the forum.

Great news and should be welcomed and embraced by all

Sounds like a brilliant idea. If the client can use just one site to source the right Disco, it saves them a lot of hassile, and a lot of advertising for us.

I for one say a BIG thank you notworthy.gif

Cheers

I'm in agreement - as long as its Karen doing the Embracing hug.gif smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

Seriously, i'm hoping to be at the stage where the basics are done, and you can view a demo of the site by the Weekend. So watch this thread!.

I think the databse is a great idea. Only a thought, would D.J's United get any negative feedback if a client books a disco from the database and the disco did not show up.
kazzachi
hopefully the djs on dju are far too professional for that djslt! Im sure cripsy will be putting a disclaimer on it anyway.... the hirer will obviously use their own discretion with who they book and given that the contact will be between the dj and client only, then there cannot be any negative feedback for dju.... im sure yellow pages dont get hassled when they are really only posting telephone numbers and not forcing you to "book that plumber"!!!

I seen a few people moan about DJU on another forum, saying it's over moderated etc. but it it's obvious why, Chris cares about the forum and puts alot of time into his 'baby'

I'm impressed!

I've had the legalities looked into regarding this point, since its a concern that myself and several other members have raised. The point you make (although very valid) would be comparable to suing the Yellow Pages for a Plumber who advertised in their directory not turning up to fix your tap!. I am simply offering a service and not acting as a booking agent for any bookings.

As Karen mentioned there will be a disclaimer, complete with an advice page to the client on booking D.J's and what to ask for (Hopefully DJU Members will have an input on these tips).

There will be a basic code of conduct that any member signs against and agrees to follow before being able to place a listing, and area's declared such as Public Liability Cover and PAT Tested Gear will be in the form of a "Yes / No" box. No member will be allowed to mislead, if you tick "Yes" then you will be asked to provide evidence of your cover to me within a reasonable time frame. This doesn't penalise D.J's who provide a professional level of service and also have competant electrical skills but choose not to have PLI / PAT Test cover. This area will be subject to review as / if the Law changes.

Any member who has a valid complaint made against them by a customer, will have their listing removed

Excellent, sounds as though its all sewn up. Just thought I would say as you never know who will sign up. But you all seem a professional and nice bunch of people to me tongue.gif

Yes, and the reason why they are moaning is that they can't get away with causing the trouble that they do on the other forum on here. basically these comments are often posted by the 16 year old Wannabe's with big dreams and a mouth to match. Exactly the type of "D.J's" who we wouldn't want to have representing us anyway, I'd rather they continue shouting their mouths off elsewhere than run the risk of passing work on to them.

What they don't realise is that potential clients can and often do visit these types of forums when searching for a disco (hence the reason why I am launching the directory) and it's a great advert for them to view the content of some "those" post's when their website is also listed in their signature!.

Some of the forums i've viewed already have posts which could easily get them closed down, if a complaint and snapshot was sent to their host. Web Host's are now liable for hosted content, especially on forums, and they now answer directly to their bandwidth providers and the owners don't realise that even the hint of an abusive or slanderous comment will get them taken off line I know of one PC related forum that was taken down due to comments made about a certain manufacturer.

So there you go, thats why we have moderation on the forum, along with giving a more professional feel to the industry.
mobile_dj_crooks
i totallly agree....plus the fact that i only have edited i think 4 or 5 posts....that's about it! 014.gif but the idea is nice! keep with the improvments!
