Ok,

So i have a party goin down on 22nd july which is my own, Im supplying all the gear etc, And will be using Virtual DJ, So can do most show unatended playlist has been sorted including various announcments etc,

Know i will be having a mate sat near the gear just to you keep eye out and if any requests come write em down,

The venue wants PLI insurance, I have that but it covers me only !, The question is do i need it for him or could i say hes purely a roadie ?.

How do you guys work round this, Failing that i would have to take out a policy couple days before to cover just that event and be cheeky and cancel after the event !. In theory costing me nothing.

What would you all advise
Gary
The "get insurance, do gig, cancel insurance" idea would be classed as fraud, I would imagine.

Personally, I wouldn't get into a situation where the gear would be left running a playlist during the main part of the night, with just a dis-interested looking sole moping around behind the disco equipment not touching it. I'm sure that people would twig fairly quickly that they're effectively dancing to a juke box - if not by the inactivity of the gear-watcher, but by the pre-timed announcements not lip-syncing with the gear-watcher.

Also what appears to be a perfectly good playlist on screen by day, can actually fail tune-after-tune when pushed onto a real audience. I wouldnt attempt to predict what the crowd will want by more than 2 ~ 4 tracks.

To add-lib the Musicians unions stickers "Keep button pressing Live!" biggrin.gif

You need Employer and Employee liability then.

I have £5M PLI with Musicguard. That covers me alone.

If anyone else is with me and operating the gear they must be added to my policy.

Perhaps you could do the same?

Sounds potentialy disasterous.

I would just book another Dj in to do it for you, thereby saving any worries. You can then party! pepsi.gif

If the insurance is with Pavilion Liabilitygaurd then you can ammend the insurance at any time, there is a £5 admin fee on top of whatever extra they want for adding somebody else to it.
You would be technically employing your mate though so would also need employers liability too.
Why not just do away (not kill lol) your mate and just take the requests yourself?

I have got the same do as you coming up in 2 weeks time (i don't think we're related tho biggrin.gif )!.

I will be using a selection af Mastermix CD's and popping back to the decks every 20 mins or so to look at my CLIPBOARD and PEN that has requests and any extra announcements on it.

I hope that I will be able to enjoy the party AND talk to the guests in the interim.

All the guests know (even though it is family) as at all other functions I do, they are not allowed on the stage, hence the clipboard on a table next to the stage!.

I can never understand the logic of doing your own party in this fashion.

Doesn't exactly make anyone look pro does it? 533.gif

I've got my wedding reception coming up in less than three weeks and there was no way I was going to try and DIY.I want to enjoy myself and at the same time make sure I'd got a pro up there (no pressure then Pete biggrin.gif ).
I booked one of you guys on here, after all, that's what a forum like this is here for isn't it?
