Following on from my 70's and 80's thread I began to look closely at my 60's collection too.

I expect I'm similar to most most DJ's, I have Motown, Soul, Britpop and general 60's collections as well as hits albums by Beatles, Stones, Diana Ross, Beach Boys, Kinks, etc. I was hoping there would be an all-encompassing collection somwhere..?

I have MasterMix Sixties Box 1, I may get Box 2 but it doesn't look that good:
60s Box 2

Anyone recommend a decent 60's collection?

Sixties Summer Of Love is quite good for one part of that decade.

Ready Steady Go! ( what a great programme that was ) is another.

The "Chartbusters USA" series is good too.

Readers Digest have some interesting stuff too, especially if you're interested in the
"pre-fab" ( before the Beatles ) era.

"Best of....." collections are extremely subjective. The 1960's, a time when music was changing constantly, is a good example.

In my opinion ( and it's just my opinion ) stuff like Freddie & The Dreamers, Gerry & The Pacemakers, New Seekers etc etc., whilst probably popular with some, is often not danceable and not worth having.

On the other hand there's a load of stuff around that is both danceable and good to listen to. A glance through the charts of that decade, picking out the better stuff, is a good way to go if you have the time and/or inclination.

What about compiling your own list and buying them from Itunes etc.
having a list of the best 5 each of the best 60's tracks that we know (as UK Dj's work) will give you a good collection. Heres 5 of mine that have always got the crowd bopping.

Bill Haley - Rock around the clock
Elvis Presley - Jailhouse Rock
Beatles - Can;t buy me love
Roy Orbison - Oh pretty Woman
Tom Jones - Delilah

That's not a bad idea but I prefer to have a CD...complete with booklet and glossy pictures! I know, I know, old fashioned and all that.

I suppose I could burn my own CD's, then create my own booklets, but it just won't be the same!
