I was working at a lovely venue last night (Mon 27th)..
Kilhey Court which is Shevington Nr Wigan.
I was doing a graduation dinner dance for Wigan & Leigh collage. After set up I went the bar (as you do) I ordered 2 pints of coke. You can imagine how horrifide I was when the bar attendant said £7.90 please. "For 2 cokes"?, I said.
So we made them last all night......
I realise drinks may be more expensive down south but on average a pint of coke up here is £2.20 (and thats top dollar).
What experiances have you had with bar prices?

how did they work that out.... 1.97 and 1/2p for half a coke...
if the bar man had said £8 I would have believed him....
average price for half a coke in the south in a hotel is about £1.50
£3 a pint of larger is also common down here....
ASK to see the price list that should be displayed at every bar by law....

£3.95!
Most ive ever payed for a pint of Lager is £2.95 a pint...coke is £1.50 a pint... the way that the "posh" venues make their money down here, is by actually having only bottled stuff, rather than pump stuff, giving them their rights to charge more!

I ordered a Pint of lager, Carling, £4.00 and it came out of a tin!!!
I almost had a heart attack!!!!
Most expensive I know of.
Mind you, they also charged a Groom & his Best man £500 to be dropped off by helicopter. £500 just to land the craft!!!

I always take my own bottled water. I'm of the mind-set that I'm there to make money ...not spend it.

We went Wembly a couple of years ago and I can remember a pub called `The Green man` . They were selling warm cans of Skol for £2.50 each out of a 6 X 4 shed on the car park.

I would have infomed them that I was not interested in buying the business, just a drink.

I usually ask the function manager at a hotel if it's possible to get a bottle of water, or ask the barstaff if I qualify for staff drinks.

I always take a 2litre bottle of water with me. Enough to last all night and at 25p in Lidl, it works out at 12.5p per litre.
Any freebies offered are gratefully accepted, with the exception of alcohol.
I wonder how much the bar staff have to pay for their drinks?

Wow!
Go abroad - was in France and cost a bomb for drink!
Here, well £1 for 1/2 pint of coke.
Pubs, average £2.50 for a pint of lager, some of the smaller places in town go to £2.80 and beyond. Same with the clubs

And that was only a couple of years ago, when Wembley had already closed, imagine the price is there was actually a football match on there too.

Work quite a few hotels on various disco's (i roadie for others aswell as running my own show) and the average price in the hotels around this part of Kent is about £2.50. Only one of the hotels i can't get free drinks in yet! Still working on it!
Good trick is if you are working a christmas run at one venue, take a tin of chocolates for the bar staff, always a nice gesture and also clicks up the brownie points!

Heh.. it's just dawned on me where the expression 'brownie points' originates from

I work in a pub every tue and fri and I normally drink red rooster (cheaper red bull) which I thought was expensive at £2.20 a can....so I thought I'd order a pint of lemonade and lime cordial.
£3.20!!!!
I think I'll take a bottle of water from now on

Chicago Rock Cafe tried to charge me £7.90 for a Vodka Red Bull a few weeks ago. I told the barman he could keep it and walked off in disgust. Strangely a pint of lager was only £2.80. God knows where they got £7.90 from.
My mate had a red bull later and said it was £2.50 so it was £5.40 for the vodka or £2.40 for a single
