I have currently saved up about 3k to purchase a new speaker system. I have been looking at the various mackies. I am currently using rcf event 4000 and bass bins. Looking fo something that has a lot of throw for medium to large sized venues. Looking to purchase full range cabinets maybe with bass bins as well. Dont need to buy any amps as I am running QSC Plx's. I will obviously hire the speaker first and try them before purchasing.

Has anyone got any advice on makes etc or to offer and any information about hight quality speakers that are worth consdiering.

RCF are very, very good for DJing when used at full potential. I understand that Mackie have either 'taken over' or have interest in RCF. Might be worth checking as RCF's may have dropped considerably in price.

Trouble with RCF - they don't like noise-clipping, but do have have a good low frequency speaker (15") for bass tunes.
(Ever heard of Gauss?)
My system:
For frequent speaker useage and up to 100 guests - I use 2x EV Sx300 Speakers, 300W, 12" 2-way speakers with 'Ring-Mode Decoupling' technology!?
(run through a QSC PLX2402 - quite O.T.T. for 2xEV's so I retard the output for this)

Most speakers are generally under-rated......for 150+ guests I add a further 2 X EV's Sx300's.
If you 'stack' them on the floor, you can get a 'Bass' sound that is O.K.
For larger, 300+ gigs, I use 100ltr RCF 300W Bins with the lower frequency drivers, a nice rich bass but I change the amp to a Yamaha Studio 1200W, again O.T.T but very rich in quality.

Ask CP what he thinks of the various makes - you may be able to change the drivers and save a little money to go towards other DJ related material.

i think you mentioned this same topic on another forum but just incase its not you - im really not a fan of mackies for disco use. they SOUND lovely but i just dont think they have the agression to draw people onto the dancefloor. it sounds stupid i know - but just my opinion - ive been to several weddings etc where the dj was using mackies and they do sound great - i wwas sitting there listeningto beautifully reproduced music but there just wasnt hte raw, kick up teh arse, get on teh dancefloor vibe that was required!
basically - as simon cowell would say - they just aint got the X factor.

A lot of others have said this about mackie as well, thats whay i was hoping for some suggestions to other quality speakers for use. I do like the RCF rig I am using now and will use these for another show.
