Anyway, need some answers to some important questions. I've tried the search function which gave me some but not all answers.

My plan is/was to buy a laptop, download all the music off Napster, add sound and lights then give it a go. A friend of a friend runs an agency and says he will get me plenty of work.

I want to do this all above board, no copied or illegal stuff. In typical UK fashion it might seem I'm still breaking the law by using Napster tunes on a laptop but I'm not sure.

Does Napster allow public/private performance of their tracks ?

Also, most, if not all, DJ software wont play DRM protected files so is it legal/allowed by Napster to convert these files into non-DRM mp3 files for DJ'ing off a laptop.

It's all so confusing. I HATE the UK sometimes

To stay legal you can't remove the DRM or change the file format....

This Basicly sucks big time

So if your sure you want to play from a laptop it is recommended you Rip your tracks from orginal CDs that you own at a bit rate that's keeps you happy and in a format you know works and won't give you problems mid gig..

but its all upto you...

Don't worry too much about the law just yet but make sure you can provide prof that you realy do own the Cds or downloads if needed....

That's what I was worried about. The people who make these laws are idiots. DRM only hurts one kind of person, and that's the people who dont break the law and actually pay for their music. The very people that keep these morons in business. People who use Kazaa to get all their music will never encounter DRM.

If I remove the DRM and DJ with those files that shouldnt be a problem so long as I dont share the Non-DRM files I created. The artists still get paid and no one has got something for nothing.

You reckon the judge will buy that

Out of curiosity, what's the going penalty for getting caught without SG6's and Digital DJ Licenses etc ?
