HI Everyone. Just found this site.

I've been playing records for a few years but never tried to make a living out of it. I don't intend to as I'm a practicing Osteopath. Still I can't get enough of music and vinyl though.

I played at a party this weekend and got asked by a local bar owner if I wanted to Dj a monthly night. The thing is, as I have never done this before I dont know what amount of m oney to ask for. The guy was aware that I would be paid something ( as opposed to doing it for a laugh ).

Could somebody help me out?

Cheers, all the best biggrin.gif

Hi i suggest you find out a little more from the gig about what they expect from you. How long will you be playing ? their equipment or yours? What does he want you to play ? How many punters are expected. Also how much is it going to cost you? eg transport, records etc . What is the going rate for a dj in your area? A lot of discussion has gone on on this site about under pricing to get gigs, when you have a few more answers then put them on this post and i am sure you will receive the help and advice you need. 042.gif

a lot depends on what you are playing.

are you doing 'specialist' music, like drum & bass, R&B, dance/house etc, or are you doing a 'full night' at the club playing a full range of styles.

if its the specialist, you'll find you may have a 1 to 2 hour slot, and the price you charge will depend on the slot your given.

If its an opening slot / early slot - expect £50-75 .. if its a prime time slot - expect £200-250

if its a club where he requires you to play all night - then you'll get £60 to 100

The specialist spots pay more, as the punters pay more to listen to the specialist genre

I hope thats helped.

Oh, and this is based upon you using all the clubs facilities, not your own
