i have been spinning for a couple of years and am trying to get into a small club close by and working my way up to residency and getting my name out there. i am pretty good now and i am still waiting for a response back from the club people. i want to get my name out and be known around the city so i can get to the bigger clubs. i absolutely love spinning and want to make a career out of this. can i get some tips on this stuff from some more experienced people? greatly appreciated!

Hi and welcome

my best advice is to love music and to watch to crowd the whole nite and give them the bigist and fatist of tunes but to also tease them make them wait for the really big tunes but drop the odd acapella and instumental. please excuse the spelling im a little drunk

Hi there and welcome

We are quite a few club jocks here and my advise to you is hard work, lots of practice, try and be a little different from your competition and important;when you are ready get out there in club owners faces, offer to do a free gig or two so they can see what you do.Do not sit and wait for them to come to you or you are going to be lonely! no matter how good you are

On your first gig (the free one) even offer to do an hour, makes it sound like you are already busy and popular .... be sure to not only drop all the latest choons, but drop the odd old skool fat anthem in too.
perhaps even try drop something obscure in .... i tend to use paul hardcastle's 19 or madonna's vogue .... tease the crowd with it.
Also - what i done on my first night was ...
(i had to work close with the lighting techie)
I was playing my second choon, and i simply switched off the deck, the music slowed to a stop - the lights went out ....
give it 10 to 15 seconds then BANG!!! an ultimate rockin choon to build the crowd right up.
remember, the club owner wont give a crap how you mix, or what your latest choon is, he will be watching the crowd ... if you can make them chant/cheer, he'll take you on (normally a 3 or 4 gig trial)
