I keep getting asked for Crazy by Gnarles Berkley. I don't have it and am not to fussed about getting it. I am not sure where it would fit in and don;t think it is that dancy, so was wondering if you have used it.
I don't know if it is new but I love the 'new to me' eminem song Shake That. Have you used this as the lyrics are a bit riskee.

i always think if they want it let them have it but within reason. it is down to you at the end of the day?....
Gnarls Berkley is probably the one of the biggest tracks i am playing in clubs at the moment, i usualy slip it in at the end of a rnb set. I will play Eminems new track because i am a dj and not responsible making sure that nobody hears risque lyrics. I dont believe in censorship for an adult audience , i believe an adult has the possibility to leave if he cant handle the lyrics.

'Crazy' does stand out a little at the moment simply because IMO there isn't a lot of other half-decent chart material about.
Truth is, it really isn't a good track from either the music or the production point of view.
I wouldn't play it unless asked, and then not to a full floor.
I don't like it, see?

That's my tuppence worth.

What a strange attitude! I sincerely hope that it is not the host that objects to it then, or perhaps the bride or groom?

well, you typed it......
More sensible to play music that does not offend, unless specifically requested and even then not without consideration for the rest of your audience. That is, assuming you want repeat bookings.

I tend to agree with this. I am sure though, that most of us would realise there is a time and an audience for this sort of song. If it is a wedding etc where there is a mix of guest it would probably not be acceptable. If it is somewhere where there is a younger crowd or people have paid to come and have the option of leaving then you are more likely to be able play it.

Chris works mainly clubs to an Adult audience, I don't imagine he'd play such material at a Wedding Reception with kids of primary school age present. It's also perfectly feasible that attitudes to offensive lyrics are entirely different in Norway than they are in the UK
laughingly tonight at an 11th Birthday, I got asked by some cocky kid, why I was playing the version of "Beep" with beeps in it
Oops I forgot to tell you Clockwork orange, i do about 150\250 gigs ( up until 1996 i did 250 \ 300) a year but only 12 mobiles and about 4 of them are weddings. I am also abroad so people dont mind english bad language , and they always play the uncensored versions on national radio. In this instance i dont find my attitude strange, if you go to a club where you have to be 20 years old to get in then i think if you object to the djs choice of lyrics or music then you can leave or go out for a minute or two. I aint all that keen on repeat bookings either as i am so old that i am not sure i will live long enough to forfill them ! However i have been djing since 1974 (proffesionaly since the early 80s) so i have had a few. Nice edit on the quote by the way "as a dj i am not responsible for upholding peoples moral standards" is what i meant. Lastly i would like to say that as a club dj and with other djs working for me i feel that if one always sat in the corner and played it safe then the role of a dj would never advance or evolve . It is neccessary to push the boundaries no matter what , playing the same things every gig is not my idea of doing a good job but thats my opinion. Also i hope Clockwork Orange is not the name of your roadshow too as its not exactly a film for kids !

The Gnarles Barclay track I have been asked for and played quite a bit. I like it.
The Eminem track is so-so, had no requests for it yet, but then I have not had the right audience for it recently either.

Really surprised that you don't think it dancy.

I'm the same as you on both these tracks.
Crazy by Gnarled old barky tree... seems best as a into/out of the buffet type tune, tween r'n'b/reggae and the Vol-au-vants and samosas. Only ever seems to do anything dancefloor wise if mixed over some other beats.
I consider few of Eminems tracks as playable. If I wouldn't say a particular word over the mic, I generally wont let a track "say" it either.

Yep.. i play it quite a lot too.. and its been number one for 6-7 weeks now so no excuse for not having it really, especially if your being asked for it!
I also like that eminem song too.. best one he's done for a while, can't see myself playing it too much at weddings though.

Your right, I think it is time i bit the bullet, got it and give it a go next week and see how it goes down. i like the song OK but have no idea how people dance to it so will be fun to watch. I much prefer more upbeat songs, not feet shuffler ones if you get my drift

Although I wont be shuffling any feet at the moment as I have sore foot and cant walk or drive

Alternatively, it will probably be featured on NOW 68
(Mind you, it took them 22 years to get "Dead or Alive: You spin me right round" on a Now Album...)

Gnarls Barkley has cleared the dancefloor on all but one time I've played it.
