Which is another reason why I don't buy any 'DJ only' titles.

I cancelled all of my pre-release disc subscriptions when I stopped doing club work. Ask yourself how many of these tracks you actually use on a weekly basis, whether they fill the dancefloor and whether it would be cheaper to just download them at 79p / 99p on a as required basis when they are released or even just wait for the next "Now" disc to appear.

£15.00 is a lot to pay if you only use 3 tracks off each compilation - thats £5.00 per track!.

I agree with what you say about Gnarles Barkley, Dj's were talking about this track, and trying to find it back in early March, and this would have been an ideal time for any credible pre-release disc to include it, i.e well before it's commercial release!. However, in reality it was availabe to the general public on legal download, long before it appeared on DJ Only compilations, even the press picked up on how soon it was available to download.

Incidentally am I the only one who has never actually been asked to play this track?? scared.gif
YourBigEvent
Asked to play it, don't even have it.

Well I can see the point of buying it if you do Student Nights, Club Work and gigs where you need and can justify having the latest stuff, but my bet is that half of these tracks will eventually struggle to chart at positions of 20 - 40 and then have disappeared a week later (Mish Mash being a prime example - another track which has already charted and now dropping like a stone)

within the space of a few weeks you'll be left with a CD full of music that will never be played again tongue.gif

Ditto, although I was doing mobile work when I subscribed to them (when I was doing rock clubs I used to get free promo discs anyway), but otherwise the same.

"Incidentally am I the only one who has never actually been asked to play this track??"

I'm not buying it, and never intend playing it.
Not a tool I would wish to use for my style of show.
Kingy
I have not been asked to play it either Chris.

Will wait for a compilation with it on.

I don't like these pre-release discs, agree they work out expensive on a "hit per disc" basis.

was asked for andd played crazy last saturday night...

sadley most of the good tracks on that cd are already out... so its hardly a dj pre relise...

all the music company's are doing this so people go looking for tracks on download, saves them money. and soon loads of people at cd pressing plants will be out of jobs..

along with all th students at HMV...

I mostly get asked for this kind of stuff when playing bars or young birthday party's

Sorry to be different but I think the pro disc,s are well worth the outlay and they have got me out of a situation ony many occasions. I personally dont have the time to download all the tracks that I need and I have tried loads of DJ promos and use the Mastermix ones the most. Think that if you are a DJ you should have a good percentage of current chart stuff and I would feel to be giving less than 100% if I turned up at a gig without tracks like Gharls Barkley considering how much airplay it gets. Just my opinion though folks - 1106.gif mick

I was surprised how many people asked for that new moby track before it came out on CD!

Only been asked once. Have played it background a couple of times.

incidently, it does work with Moby tracks! biggrin.gif
Wonder if it willl work with pitched Nina Simone stuff?!

I used to subscribe to the CD Pool Radio disc but found it was an expensive way to buy 4 or 5 tracks, only 2 of 3 of which where really "pre release".

However I have just bought this Pro Disc as more of a filler because it has some tracks on that I wanted, including:

Deep Dish fet. Stevie Nicks - Dreams
Filterfunk - S.O.S. (Message In A Bottle)
Infernal - From Paris To Berlin
Mish Mash feat Lois - Speechless

I also only had an MP3 of Crazy and now I have a high quality copy as well. I also like the tracks by the Flaming Lips and Leela James but I also really wanted the track by Juanes - La Camsira Negra, which I had seen recently on The Hits and I think is a great summer latino/pop tune.

I have been asked for and have played Crazy at each of the last 7 gigs I have attended.
