Ok guys so is there any specific song you finish you disco with, well i have one which i always finish with and i know its a bit cheese but i find i goes down like a treat

I always play Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes - I had The Time Of My Life and say i am afraid to say ladies and gentlemen, boys and girl this is the last and it is very good night and god bless and hope you have all had the time of your lives tonight.

Just before the end i always say again a very good night god bless and have a save journey home.
Dj_Kray
normally newyork newyork but it really depends of the crowd
kazzachi
I dont have a specific song... It depends on the crowd and I like to keep away from the predictable ones.... NY,NY etc.... mind you, I played "things can only get better" at the end of a wedding last week and the crowd went absolutely MAD!! thumbup.gif
The Spindoctor
Agreed it does depend on the crowd......... I vary between Elvis Presley - American Trilogy (Slow boring lot) NY NY (party lot) or even You To Me Are Everything - Real Thing 12"
which has a fabulous long instrumental break in the middle so you can say thank you's and goodnights etc.

Never be predictable!
There are so many DJ's who play NY NY, it's as cheezy as you can get (I'm not having a pop at you DJ Kray, just my opinion).
There are so many great songs that can be played as the last track and as mentioned above; it totally depends on how the nights gone.
For me the following have all gone down a storm, but each crowd was totally different:
Natalie Cole-This Will Be
Nina Simone-My Baby Just Cares For Me
Jacksons-Show You The Way To Go
Monkees-Daydream Believer
Elvis-American Trilogy
Dean Martin-That's Amore
Maze-Joy & Pain
BigE
When i see a customer who has booked me, i ask them if there is a specific record they would like playing at the end. More than not, it's a record that most people know so the crowd and customer are happy.

I used to end my karaoke's with this song, you could bet your life someone would of requested this, & if not that poor unsuspecting guy that I would of clocked would be up singing it with me insted! biggrin.gif
Dj SBD
I play loads of different slow song's at the end of the night, nothing specific, just so punters can wub.gif and hug.gif , on the dance floor. Also add in some beautiful blue and white lighting and a hint of Tutti Frutti from the fog-lol wub.gif , arrr how romantic hug.gif

Although I have played Monty Python-Always look on the bright side of life
YourBigEvent
Morecombe and Wise - Bring me sunshine

Ken Dodd - Happiness

No ofence taken but its all well and good not being predictable but what works, works and as much as sometimes it bugs me to play predictable songs it is a sad fact that most, not all but most mobile crowds like very obvious music. as i did say i of course would not play it i thought it would not go down well so i use my experiance in juding the crowd as to if i play it as yet every time i have played it nearly everybody in the room got up making a big circle and singing along making a rally good end to the nite, sorry if thats a bit cheezy but hey im here for them!

Agreed, a professional plays for the crowd and not for himself; however, rather than playing a song that 90% of other mobile disco's will play, I like to push the boundaries a little and find songs that all the crowd will still like, but not necessarily one that many of them will be expecting (and some will be dreading!).
I do often receive comments along the lines of 'it was great to hear some songs we haven't heard for ages, rather than the same old songs that are always played'
Example, if you have a lof people in the audience who are 30+ and you play a track like 'Donny Osmond-Puppy Love' very often many of the audience (especially the women) will be singing their hearts out, but it's not a track that every mobile disco plays routinely!
Once again (as has been said on here SO many times) we all have our own styles; thankfully or life would be VERY boring smile.gif
kazzachi
Totally agree with you here peskie.... I have been thanked on numerous occasions for not finishing on NY,NY or you'll never etc... I know that on occasion they are the RIGHT tune to play, but like you, I like to experiement.. if the crowd has had a blinding night you can play whatever... I also like to play thats amore at the end of a wedding or sometimes "we go together" from grease!
Arches are another thing I like to experiement with - those who have them - "under the moon of love" showaddywaddy is a great track for it! 042.gif
YourBigEvent
I NEVER finish on a slowie, something that the crowd will sing as they walk out the door
kazzachi
yeah.. we all know why shaun finishes with the smoochies.. poor old dolly - sitting at home waiting for him while he is pulling the birds... probably playing something by FLOCK of seagulls or even baa baa baa, baa baabaranne! 071.gif
Dynamite Discos
i try not to be too predictable - never a slowie for me either - i quite often use b52's - loveshack - just coz it ends with such a bang
Eskie
or WOOLy bully
or No Sheep till Brooklyn tongue.gif
or Hello Dolly
or Shaun's favourite by The Moments - Dolly My Love
071.gif
The Spindoctor
Well as you picked Wooly Bully and without trying to upset Shaun how about Knitting on the Dock of the Bay, Ewe Were Always On My Mind, or even Shearing Ewe by Bobby Vee

Thank you for all the suggestion's guy's (and gal's)

But I don't play any of them, LOL laugh.gif laugh.gif
C.S
I dont play slowies at the end either, try and finnish with The Corrs "to$$ The Feathers" biggrin.gif
and now your censorship thingy has turned my title all american. mad.gif
Paul Smith
I work on the theory that the last song you hear is the one that you'll keep on singing until something else comes along so I try and pick something that I can tolerate for the time it takes to pack away the gear cos pound to a penny the drunks will still be singing it as I walk out of the door an hour later wacko.gif

Whatever it is I like it to be upbeat, I usually don't play any slowies for the last 20 mins or so - leave them on a high and wanting more (I always blame the hotel management for not being able to carry on past the finish time - which 9 times out of 10 is true anyway).

I allways use this 1 aswell, it seems to work well if they say the manager said its ok i tell them to get him to tell me in person by the time they would have come back, which they never have, ive packed half my gear away. biggrin.gif
GaryReggae
I always play something very upbeat at the end that hopefully most people will know and dance to - a rock 'n' roll classic or One Step Beyond by Madness. 'Runaway' by Del Shannon always goes well - or 'Do Wah Diddy'. Or 'The Can Can' by Bad Manners!
tonyj
its funny how tastes change and come around again. D-Reams Things call only get better is filling the floor for me at the end, not played it for a few years.

I play my slowies about 20 mins before the end and then build up for a big finish. biggrin.gif
Hugmaster
Hi peeps

Hey folks you given me some food for thought now. I'm fed up of hearing NY NY, even though it's never failed to fill the floor and get folks screaming at the top of their voices. time to ring the changes.

However I've been ordered to play never walk alone tomorrow night, *yuck*

However what I am going to start doing is bring forward the slowies and end with 3 or 4 ball-blasters to bring the house down.

Nice to get a fresh perspective from folks.

HugMaster, as a reds fan there's nothing wrong with 'You'll Never walk alone'.
Can you imagine my horror then after just being asked to play Everton's Z Cars theme tune at a surprise 60th next week (which is my first 60th and also my first surprise birthday do).
The Spindoctor
You'll find it in Woolworths in their compilation back to the 60's Cd's Johnny Keating and the Z men

Spin

Thanks for that Spin. thumbup.gif

Hi

I normally finish with can't take my eyes off you, not the andy williams version but the one from ten things I hate about you. Awesome track and everyone sings it for about half'n'hour afterwards and the B&G (if its a wedding) can dance and sing to each other wub.gif

Plus I have noticed I get alot more tips since I started playing this thumbup.gif

i would be very careful because from my experience playing LFC or EFC songs only causes fighting and trouble, so be very careful 1028.gif

Hi Wesley, well the tune is getting played as he walks through the door at the start of the night, also i'll be telling people what's gonna happen before so i hope all should be ok, but if you read in the Echo about a mass brawl at Dunnies club you'll know if didn't go done too good...
Wesley
It was when i used to work for an agency some years ago, a club in Kikby
Whisky In A Vase
For a while now I have finished with the last song being - Ricky Tomlinson's Are You Lookin' At Me.
People love it and are singing it all the way. The same words time and time again alon with a great easy tune.

Gary
If you're interested in clearing a room fast at the end of the night...which some venues most definately ARE! Try more of less ANY song (if you can call it that) by:

Margarita Pracatan (who used to "sing" on the Clive James TV show)...

http://www.margaritapracatan.com

Absolutely DIRE....

Out of time,
out of key,
out of tune,

they're outta here !!!!

Petemate
To clear my local I play Go Now-Moody Blues a great sing along song, great smoothie and if you really listen to the lyrics most people get the hint. Also Land-Ho by the Doors.
scotty
I usually play the slowies a bit earlier and end with one of my signature tunes depending on the age of the crowd 30 and under its fraggle rock theme tune, this is a top tune and has them singing all the way home very funny especially if they're all P****d, or if they're a bit older 30 plus i end with the fall guy theme tune (cuz im the unknown the stunt man that makes eastwood look so fine).
mikeee
At "family affairs" by default I finish on Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight as the last slow song, why, because it defines the end - then the Dangerman theme as talk over music.
djslt
At the club I work I usually finish on Andy Williams - can't tak my eyes off you. The regular crowd know this is the last one and love a sing along to it. When driving home down the high street I usuauly hear all the drunk staggering punters singing "I love you baby, and if its quire alright I need you baby"

Find this quite amusing!!
YourBigEvent
Bring me sunshine by Maorecombe and Wise, gets the punters up and 'dancing the dance' out of the door.
DJ Kay
The track I use most regularly is "Someone To Love" from the Blues Brothers soundtrack.
Cheezy
As stated previously it is important to play the music the client wants. However just be prepared to change your last 30 min set quickly!! Many a time I have been told by my client to end on a slow/high only to change there mind! Some venues I play regularly I have an agreement with the managment to end always on a slow (if possible) as it is a residential area and the last thing they need at chuck out is loads of lads singing new york new york!

paula
For Discos Ive finished on many a strange tune! But if your up for a giggle and can either show them the dances or go out and do it with them (this is one for Karen)
