I want to pull a list together of end of night singalongs that don't require the use of DJ gear. This can be for whatever reason - gear failure, lack of pwer, etc., etc.

I vaguely recall a show called the Good Ol Days where singalongs used to feature a lot? Did those of you who worked on holiday camps used to have a sing-song en masse? Surely there must be some ex-rugby players reading who are well used to singing at the end of the night?

The only song I can think of is We'll Meet Again - but that isn't quite what I'm after!

Anyone any ideas?
Gary
The Good Old Days on the telly used to typically finish with "Down at the old Bull and Bush", but I cant remember any other words to it - probably because I have a really bad short term memory and also its probably something to do with me having a short term memory.

As for suggestions...be prepared to be scared, very scared... heres an LP which I bought, and have used, for just such occasions...The Eastenders Sing-Along Album

Parental Warning: The page linked to contains audio clips of Eastenders stars signing along to loveable cockney tunes, all sung loud 'nuff to cover the noise of their accomplice smashing your passenger window and taking your Kenwood head unit to Dodgy Daves lock-up...up west. kid.gif

That's not a bad start thanks Gary. I did listen to a couple of cockney tunes and some Chas'n'Dave tracks before posting to 'get me in the mood' for the topic but I wondered if they were too regionalised to play all over the country?

Nice oral work by Gillian Taylforth though...ahem laugh.gif

I don't think I'd care to use a whole string of them, in this day and age.
Its not like being down in the Tube during an air-raid. hide.gif

One ending sing-a-long that always seems to work is the traditional "You'll Never Walk Alone"
(spontaneous circle of linked hands in the air as they sing)
Dale King
A quick rendition of Hey Jude (First verse, straight into the better better better better better better ohhhhhhhhh .... Na, Na, Na, Nanana...)

or (depending on the crowd) - I have a friend that you all know, Yogi, Yogi......

How about songs like:

I don't know why I love you but I do
Underneath the arches
You always hurt the one you love
and stuff like that.
Whisky In A Vase
From a north west lad,
How about a bit of the Houghton Weavers - Blackpool Belle.
At the ride kind of party - obviously.......

Never heard of it! But haven't they just been on Never Mind The Buzzcocks singing "Didn't we have a Lovely Day"
Whisky In A Vase
Never heard of it..........
"I remember very well all the happy aboard the Blackpool Belle........"

Enough I hear you say...........

The question is what was the 'Blackpool Belle"

Now this will test if any one is as sad as me...........

I have loads of the ol' singalong numbers, although rarely get a chance to play them sad.gif
some numbers that do go down well with an older crowd (especially here in London);
Everybody loves somebody sometime
Hello Dolly
Ol' Bull & Bush
Lambeth Walk
I'm enery the 8th I am
I've got a loverly bunch of coconuts
Yes, we've got no bananas
Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner
Any old iron
Boiled beef & carrots
My ol' mans a dustman
Don't dilly dally on the way
Underneath the arches
Fings ain't wot they used ta be
Oh you beautiful doll
Show me the way to go home
Knees up mother Brown

Max Bygraves and Chas & Dave have done loads of albums full of this sort of stuff

* BTW. The original Bull & Bush is a great little pub in Hampstead, I've done gigs in both there and in the original Lambeth Walk pub smile.gif
Paul Smith
When I'm packing away at the end of the night it's normally to a chorus wacko.gif of sing-a-long type 'tunes'

Most of these are Irish based however there are others as well. Last weeks popular 'end-of-night' songs were

American Pie
My Ding-a-Ling whistling.gif
Irish Rover
Living next door to Alice (Alice who the censored2.gif is Alice)
Wonderwall
Forever in blue jeans
Daydream believer

normally by this stage I'm out of the door and turning the radio on.......

You always hurt the one you love

Given the alcohol levels by the end of the night, I'd give this one a miss.

"Hewwo mayt....this iz my mayt yer know....I wuv you, I weally weally wuv you...an' you alwayz 'urt zer one you lav."

THUMP !!! fish.gif WALLOP!!

(delete as applicable)

A couple of years+ back, near the end of an 80's gig, Culture Club/Boy George "Do you really want to hurt me" had been requested and was on, as a good way of getting ready for the final slowies etc (again by request). Someone decided to add actions to the words...the pointing at someone (you), point at him (me) were innocent enough, but the action to "Hurt" was found to be a little too painful for the 3 or 4 people who didnt give him a wide berth.

Hi Peeps

When I worked the caravan parks power would often trip, when the site was maxed to the limit, so I always had a copy of the words for Delilah, on file for just in case, also, the grand ol duke of york, split the room in halves, then 1/3 's , etc always went down well with actions...
