Just wondering do any of you play games at teenage parties 13 - 14yr olds or are kids at this age too cool for that stuff?
Got some ideas what to play but will it be worth it?
So for four hours do I just play pussy cat dolls, sugababes, girls aloud, rnb etc. or try to get some 'fun' going? 533.gif
Any ideas would be of help

Thanks biggrin.gif thanks.gif

What sort of party is it?
If it's a birthday party ask the birthday boy/girl if they want games. A few 'sillies' like musical chairs with a twist - find a partner of the opposite sex before you sit down halves the amount of chairs everyone gets to know each other.
If they don't want games ask what they do want, and go for it.

They may have told their friends it's a dance party and would loose loads of teenage points when the DJ says 'OK now it's time for musical bumps' tongue.gif

Ask, it's the only way to go and make sure you have whatever is the coolest tune this week. (I have no idea what that is) At a dance a couple of weeks ago it was the Time Warp and everyone was on the floor waving their legs in the air fear.gif I was a little taken aback but it was something they had all done at school they thought it was great

4 hours with teenagers? hide.gif wallbash.gif fear.gif

I have 14 yr od niece and would say that games would be un-cool. However 4 hrs is a long time for just music. Maybe some slightly adult-ish games would be suitable. ie pass balloons through thighs. Or piece of string with a spoon on each end, 8 people boy girl etc and put the spoon down the top and out the trousers, pass to the next one and they go up the trousers and out of their top etc etc.

Good luck!

Did my daughters 12th Birthday party not long ago
Music being requested made me cringe whistling.gif little to explicit some of the tunes.

Must be the age!

Mainly pussy cat dolls and that type of stuff, cha cha slide. to finish off we did a net full of balloons and let off the smoke before releasing into the crowd there was approx 50+ kids on the flor at the time not bad. All had a good time and looking forward to the next one cool.gif

The teens may dictait the 'nature' of the function.....some will act their age, many will attempt to act 'older' but mentally, all will behave a lot younger in groups! biggrin.gif

If you see / feel that the party is 'group' orientated, you could do the odd game, however, it's really down to you on the day. Don't go into the party with the intention. Play it by ear but be confident and resourceful (at the given time) as required! smile.gif

I'm with Steve Mitchell on this, 4 hours is a bit long for the gig.
I won't do 4 hour parties for schools or kids. I have in the past but it is hard work after the first two hours.
However it can be done, and being prepared is essential. Games are un-cool but you could work a few more adult ones. Talk to the birthday organiser and work out a timetable for the party.
There is plenty of other things you could work in such as a music quiz.
Hope it all goes well for you - mick

I got a booking yesterday for a 13 year old birthday party (3 hours) The parent asked if we did games and I said we can do games if the kids want them.

I did my daughters 12th b'day party in November, music kids requested were Black Eyed Peas, Girls Aloud, Pussycat Dolls, along with Cha Cha Slide, saturday night, macarena, Oops Upside Your Head

We played pass the balloon - blow up some balloons, as many as you like, put forfeits in each one (leave one empty) , pass the balloon, when the music stops whoever is holding the balloon pops it and carries out the forfeit. remember to keep the empty balloon till last, that the winner. Might sound a bit tacky, but the kids all loved it, we had such a laugh, we had forfeits like kiss a boy, kiss a girl, (kids love being embarrassed!!!)

We also did LIMBO, they had great fun doing that too!

Best thing to do is ask the party girl/boy if they want to play games and go from there.

Cheers for all your feedback. Its a birthday party and after speaking to 'mum' she said a few games might be a good laugh- but not sure whether she asked the b'day girl herself though.! Like somebody suggested I'll play it by ear, test the water first and give it a go. Thanks once again for your coments thanks.gif biggrin.gif

Just in case

Take..

Ballons and a pump (loads of ballon based games)

Toilet rolls (paper mummies etc)

Three lucky dip boxes for prizes with just enough room for a hand to get in on the top. Join all three together so you have three seperate compartments. Closed at the front open at the back. You then can select what you want to put in AND chage them around without them seeing. One with sweets, One with small prizes (loads from the £1 stores and then the third rolleyes.gif . Make it the most grungiest awful thing you can think, of slime worms insects anything (all Plastic) In a see through box.

If you choose insects. When loading up the prize box shake the plastic insects and and put your mic close to the box. Say "can you hear them" the answer will be "no" Then say "OK hold on I'll turn the mic up". keep the Mic close to the box. Then play the BUZZING INSECTS sound track (download from many sites). From time to time put the mic in the box and stir them up. As a LUCKY prize winner gets to chose what box to put their hand in remind them that you have swapped things around. The box is open at the back so you can swap the goody boxes inside around (without them seeing). If you get a refusal then ask for a volunteer. You will not get a shortage.

Got the general layout of things?
Jelly and rice make a good maggot pie.
Slime and long thin pasta make a nice worm soup.

The secret is to not let the audience too close and dont over use it. 3 or 4 times is about right.

Baby wipes and towel to clean up if you use the messy stuff.

I've never done games for this age group, and would doubt they'd want it on the night, although it might get suggested beforehand.

I've always found they have enough 'other things' to distract them........ huh.gif

Just to let you know did the party yesterday - what a laugh!! Not half as bad as I'd considered it to be . Actually it was a joint b'day for two sisters 13 and 11 yrs so they were easy to work with. One or two of the older ones were starting to hit the I'm too cool stage but on the whole the 4hrs went quite quick. Played the baby bottle game with them, which went down a storm! and they wanted to have a pop idol type dance comp for each one to do an individual dance to. So as you can imagine, 20 or so kids , ( alot of them were too embarrassed to dance on their own ) 1 dance each then a second round it took up a load of time. Like somebody posted play it by ear see / ask what the kids want and be prepared to change your plan for the 4 hrs.

Well do'nt think it would have been as good if I'd not asked for advice first.

Thank you.

I tend to play a few games at teenage parties.
Snowball and Arches always go down very well

Snowball

Everyone makes a bug circle, birthday boy or girl stands in the middle, picks someone of the oposite sex and slow dances for about 20 secs. When the music stops they have to both go and find themselves another partner to dance with.
In the end you will have everyone up dancing. After that I play another slow song for them to dance the whole way through,

Arches,

The boys or girls make 2 lines and make an arch with there arms. hand to hand etc... At the other side a queue of the opposite sex q up waiting. When the music starts they have to kind of limbo through the arms. When the music stops the arms are put down. The person that is caught in the arms has to kiss both of them.
After the song has finished I get them to swap over.
I know this game sounds a little childish, but it always works very well and they all know how to play it.

I have been doing searches on Google, there is quite a lot of websites out there with loads of games and even target particular age groups.
After a quick look I found this ::
GAME CENTRAL

Hope this helps,

Nathan
