Seriously most Chart, Disco, rock n roll, Motown, new wave, Glam rock, etc stuff from the 50's right through to today. Most 60 year olds will like a broad spectrum. Many will have kids and grand kids and listened to all types of music. Search and you will be rewarded as there have been many playlists posted on this forum. Creative genre and era changes will be where your main work will be as there are so many good tracks that can be played to cover this type of event. Use both original and covers to help you change. HAVE A GREAT TIME. This is one you will enjoy.

Don't panic. Work out what music was around when they were in their 20's, that'll be 1970's then. Make sure you have a good broad selection from thereabouts. More importantly, talk to the client, and find out what their expectations are.

I did one of these recently.

Don't expect them to only want music from the 60's. It depends on if they are young at heart (then they may want 60's to current) or not.

There is also likely to be a wide age group of family members, so you may need a bit of something for everyone - similar to a wedding, but with more of a 1960's and early 70's bias.

But most importantly, as with every booking, ask them now what they want. I'm sure that a search of the forum will turn up some request forms that you can send them to list some of their favorites. (If it's not already, make it your standard practice to send out a music form with the booking form.)

As with the others. I do a few of these. A good selection of party tunes from the 50`s to now. Good danceable ones, Abba, Barry White, Foundations, Mud, Shawaddywaddy (SP) rock & roll, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Hayley & the comets,Chubby Checker etc, pointer sisters, Tiffany, Erasure, Robbie Williams, Madonna , Crazy Frog (Joke). Then all the action stuff like YMCA, Reach (S. Cub), Timewarp, locamotion, ups upside your head, Soul Banana some might know Cha Cha slide etc.

There is a few from all decades you would get away with.

Obviously don`t crank up any hardcore trance etc.

Good luck & let us know how you get on.

Don't forget, they won't be as energetic as their offspring, and if most of the audience are about 60 you may see very little dancing, although hopefully there will be a decent quantity of younger (30s - 40s) there to keep some action on the floor.

Simply play pleasant 'handbaggy' stuff from through the decdades, as people can still enjoy the music without dancing.

I had one of these recently, and most were of pensionable age so there was an empty floor for much of the time. This isn't a problem, as long as people are smiling, nodding heads, tapping feet and so-on. This is all part of that cliche we hear thrown about so much - 'reading the crowd'.

Oh, don't have the music too loud. During sound checks, ensure you can speak to your roadie out front without shouting and note the VU levels - discipline yourself not to go above this, as a common mistake especially with the inexperienced is to play the music too loud, perhaps subconciously hoping to force people onto the dance floor by sheer volume. Won't work... smile.gif

Have fun! biggrin.gif

Don't be too sure about that. I've seen 60+ punters out-last the younger ones on many a night. biggrin.gif

Some of those youngsters just don't have the stamina, too much of a couch potato life style.

Should be a good gig, I often work this age group and they were around in the days when all the good music was born - go for it, don't hold back give em a night to remember - mick
