HI there i'am after some advice i don't know whether to buy a pair of sub's or get some more full range speakers getting a few more bookings now for bigger venues and only just managing sound wise i have a pair cheap skytec 250w speakers they sound alright at minute but they are getting a bit of thrashing at these bigger venues don't have loads to spend but can anyone point me in right direction. p.s i have a beringher 1400w amp thanks

Personnally I'd be tempted to expand the system with a pair of subs.
If your on a budget try for subs with a crossover built in. You could then (for the time being) run skytecs of the back of the subs output and run the lot of the amp. This way the subs will take the low frequncy and pass the higher range onto the tops ( I'm assuming they're 12"), hopefully put a little less strain on them.
Our other members may tell you this isn't ideal, but for the time being its a budget solution.
I would, when funds permit go for a better quality tops in the long run with possibly a dedicated amp and crossover. So if you can get some subs that will be ok running of your current 1400w amp this would be that part of your system sorted.

My advice would be to get better full range speakers...

I used to use 2 x FBT Maxx 4's which were ample at 90% of the functions I performed in.

I have 2 Peavey 300watt bass bins which I have used in total 5 times in five years... If you're doing a lot of 18ths and 21sts, get bass bins as the kids love em.

If you are doing weddings etc, then as long as the sound is clear, loads of bass isnt required.

Now I use 2 x FBT Maxx 6a's (Thanks Kev - M3KTG) great speakers.....

think about getting bigger full range speakers first as the speakers you have are not the best for the work your doing...

if your on a budget then maybe somthing with dual 15" drivers.. this design gives better low end and loads of volume...

these will also work well with your amp..

people who make good speakers with dual 15" include FBT and JBL...

what ever you do dont get sucked into the typical Ebay cheep speakers, the price may be attractive but you will be back with the same problem in no time...

Not all subwoofers will do this. Many simply parallel up the connections! Check with the manufacturer first. Its usually the higher-spec stuff that contains two-way crossovers.

I use my subs when the venue is large. I have some excellent full range cabs with my Cerwin Vega's and use the matching subs when I feel that the venue may soak up the bass. I also use them when 'I need to feel the beat Party nights'.

As the advice so far has said. Buy some decent full range cabs. I have recently tried my Cerwin subs with some JAC12's that i bought to do small venu's and they work very well togother. The Jac12's sound good on their own too. D Class who make them also do some good value for money Subs. Dont confuse them with Car audio stuff as has been done on this forum before. DJ Dicky on this forum may do you a good deal too. Search on this forum for links and reviews.

BUT although I am happy with my setups I am considering the new BOSE PAS system purely for the ease of setup (and the rave reviews) I will admit I love new gadgets.
