Came across it last night.

Found a dead spot on one of my active speakers on the volume control......

Only on turn on and off moving from zero volume - give large, blowing speaker pop

Now part of me says " why not have a look.... maybe swap the volume rotary with the treble one if they are the same"

after all i dont use the on speaker tone controls

My sensible side says GET IT SERVICED... its critical

So..... to look or not to look

problems only get worse, get it serviced before it lets you down...
robbiedj
I'd have a look, just to check if it is something simple. If not, get it serviced.

You can't cross your fingers and hope.

See if I cn fix it.

Almost certainly a problem with the pot., and as these are pretty much 'no user servicable parts inside', replace it.

Swapping it for the treble contol might cause problems elsewhere eventually - get it replaced.

I'd do it myself, assuming I could order the correct value and physical size.
High Fidelity
Being a capable electronics engineer I'd probably fix it myself.

9 times out of ten, the hardest part is getting the equipment apart. wallbash.gif

I have always opened it up and had a quick look inside it. If I can see what the fault is I will take to a Qualified engineer and ask for this particular part to be fixed.
Avoiding work not need doing being done!!

Funny how you always seem to find the easy way after you've broken something open rolleyes.gif

My problem is getting it back together after taking it apart cool.gif always seem to have a few bits left over fear.gif

Usually manage to fix most things myself
highslayer
If its a PC then no problem, but anything else I take apart either breaks, or has bits left over once I've finished, or err - 'looks' different!
Nedd
I like to "have a go" - but if I'm honest I usually make things worse!
Chrispy
Most of the bits I have left over, end up in a bag as spares!. After all, if the thing works okay with the bits left off, then it must have been over-engineered in the first place! tongue.gif
Nedd
You may well have a point there Chris! LOL

So, since Carlsbro applied the "take to service centre" route.. I now really want a look

Dont think i can swap the Pots (treble and volume) as the treble has a centring point and 12 o clock.

Andy, where is a good source of POTS (better than maplin) ?
After all, i am not too bad with a soldering iron, power driver, chisel, sledgehammer, decorators filler.... so should be a doddle!!!!
RichardP
For your pots you could also try RS or Farnell or maybe CPC. Happy hunting.
