Both terms can mean different things to different people.

There are plenty of compilations around with "60s" and "Soul" in the title but it would be a good idea to ask your client for some titles as a guide.

I hope you are getting paid well for an 8 hour stint! huh.gif
That booking would be a struggle for me, and I was brought up during that era!

My advice:
If she is that fussy, get a play list guide from her, make her do the work.
I'd have thought anything dancable from the 60s upwards to the 80s would be acceptable though and after the first couple of hours they won't care much anyhow. Remember, although she is paying you, there are going to be a lot of other people there of a similar age who may not agree with her choice. Bung in the odd 'other' type of track and see how it goes.

Maybe sandwitch the genre she specifies between disco classics, creating several sixties sessions.

Good luck.......

split your 60's into sections.

Early 60's R'n'R
Mersey sound
Summer of Love
Surfing hits
Motown
Philadelphia sound

And ask about the "soul" section. Sometimes they want motown, sometimes Northern soul. Customers don't always use the right terms for their music choices. Always try to pin them down on a few favourite tracks. It will give you a clue to what they really mean. tongue.gif

Judging from what you have given age 40, Music range 60's and soul and the time 8pm to 4 am.

I would guess they were into northern soul and were trying to recreat a all niter notworthy.gif
you really have your night cut out if this is the case because the music they would be requesting is going to be more specialised than the run of the mill 60's soul. ask the client for a rough playlist to get an idea of the music they are exspecting at least you will know wghat you are up against. if you need some 60's soul or northern Soul list i can supply some lists for you and albums to get.

good luck could turn out to be an toot.gif of a night

call me cynical if ya like, but I suspect for a bunch of 40 somethings their ideas are bigger than their capacity for entertainment.

With drunkeness, tiredness, babysitters waiting, wife waiting, dog waiting, zimmer frames waiting etc, etc, I'd be surprised if you need two hands to count the population after 2 am.

Hope you prove me wrong tongue.gif

That is a long gig. To be honest if I didn`t know much the music they wanted then I would be tempted not to have taken it on. Not so sure it will do your reputation much good.

Anyway seeing as you are having ago, get down to HMV and pick up some compilation CDs from that era. You`ll find plenty of 4 disc sets. Remember though most tunes from the 60`s are less than 3.5 mins long so get yourselves plenty of material....

Good luck lads.
